Pfeiffer University at Charlotte, in Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of three campuses of Pfeiffer University, where the university's School of Graduate Studies and Center for Professional Advancement are located. Pfeiffer University is a private university in Misenheimer, North Carolina, United States. It is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. History Pfeiffer originated from a home school operated by Emily Prudden in the late-19th century. The school, called the "Oberlin Home and School", first began on the outskirts of Hudson, North Carolina, on Lick Mountain in Caldwell County, North Carolina. University archivist Jonathan Hutchinson said in 2013, "Our accepted founding date is 1885," referring to the date Prudden's first school began, "but Emily probably started the school in about 1898." The school was called Oberlin, after John Frederick Oberlin, a French priest noted for his social improvement in the Alsace Region of France. The school was later endowed by Mrs. Mary P. Misenheimer, North Carolina
Misenheimer is an incorporated village in Stanly County, North Carolina, United States. It is in the southern Piedmont region of North Carolina, near the city of Richfield. The population was 728 as of the 2010 Census. The college town is dominated by the main campus of Pfeiffer University, a university which was upgraded from a high school to a college largely due to financial support by Henry and Annie Merner Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer also housed Gray Stone Day School, a charter high school. On January 6, 2011, Gray Stone moved to its new campus on what was previously Pfeiffer land in the town. U.S. Route 52 passes through Misenheimer along its route from Salisbury to Albemarle, and bisects the Pfeiffer campus along with a Norfolk Southern Railroad line.
