Greece competed at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Soviet Union, USSR. Greek athletes have competed in every Summer Olympic Games. Of the five nations that have been to every Summer Games (the others being Australia at the Olympics, Australia, United Kingdom at the Olympics, Britain, France at the Olympics, France and Switzerland at the Olympics, Switzerland), Greece was the only one to compete under its national flag at Moscow, as the other five and several other nations competed under the Olympic flag (New Zealand at the 1980 Summer Olympics, New Zealand flew the flag of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association) in protest of the USSR's involvement in the Soviet–Afghan War, Afghan Civil War. Hellenic Olympic Committee
The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC, ) is the governing Olympic body of Greece. It is the second-oldest National Olympic Committee in the world (after the French Olympic Committee), it organizes the country's representatives at the Olympic Games and other multi-sport events. Members of the committee are 27 sports federations, which elect the Executive Council composed of the president and six members.
