Cognomen
A ''cognomen'' (; : ''cognomina''; from ''co-'' "together with" and ''(g)nomen'' "name") was the third name of a citizen of ancient Rome, under Roman naming conventions. Initially, it was a nickname, but lost that purpose when it became hereditary. Hereditary ''cognomina'' were used to augment the second name, the ''nomen gentilicium'' (the Surname, family name, or clan name), in order to identify a particular branch within a family or family within a clan. Petro Herkulan Malchuk, O.F.M. (; ''pol. Piotr Malczuk'' 7 July 1965 – 27 May 2016) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr. Life Malchuk was born in Slobozia-Rașcov in the Moldovan SSR into a Polish family. He began studies at the Seminary of Riga in 1986. On 7 June 1992 Petro Herkulan Malchuk was ordained a priest by Jan Olszanski MIC, Bishop of Kamyanets-Podilskyi. In 1993 he made the Franciscan order profession. Pope Benedict XVI in 2008 appointed him titular bishop of media, and as auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Southeast Ukrainian Odessa-Simferopol. The episcopal ordination took place on 3 May 2008, with Cardinal Marian Jaworski, Archbishop of Lviv; and Archbishop Ivan Jurkovic, Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine and Bronislaw Bernacki, Bishop of Odessa-Simferopol as co-consecrators. Petro Tkachenko
Petro Fedorovych Tkachenko (December 21, 1878 in Syniavtsi – January 3, 1919) was a prominent blind kobzar. Biography Petro Fedorovych Tkachenko-Halashko was one of the more outstanding kobzars of the Chernihiv region. He was born on December 21, 1878, in the village of Syniavtsi, Sosnytsia county near Chernihiv. At the age of 9 he became blind. At the age of 16 he began an apprenticeship with the kobzar Andriy Hayduk (Haydenko) and after a short period continued with Tereshko Parkhomenko under whom he studied for three years. (Kornievsky states that he was partially sighted). Tkachenko's repertoire consisted mainly of songs. Petro Shelest
Petro Yukhymovych Shelest ( – 22 January 1996) was a Ukrainian Soviet politician who served as First Secretary of the Ukrainian Communist Party from 1965 until his removal in 1972. Ideologically a social moderate and a national communist, he oversaw a widespread liberalisation of Ukrainian society as part of the Khrushchev Thaw and Sixtier movement that led to increased visibility of the Ukrainian language and culture in public life. Shelest was removed by Leonid Brezhnev in 1972 and replaced with Volodymyr Shcherbytsky, who undid much of Shelest's reforms and oversaw intensive Russification of Ukrainian society. Petro Prokopovych (1775–1850, ) was a Ukrainian beekeeper who made revolutionary contributions to the practice. They include the founding of commercial beekeeping and the invention of the first movable frame hive. He introduced novelties in traditional beekeeping that allowed great progress in the practice.
