Petre Libardi Stadium
The Petre Libardi Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Petroșani, Romania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Jiul Petroșani. The stadium holds 15,500 people and was built in 1982. Petroșani (; Hungarian: ''Petrozsény''; German: ''Petroschen'') is a city in Hunedoara County, Transylvania, Romania, with a population of 31,044 as of 2021. The city has been associated with mining since the 19th century. History "Pietros" means "stony, rocky" in Romanian. The city of Petroșani was founded in the 17th century (around 1640) with the name Petrozsény. In 1720, an Austrian cartographer mentions that the entire Jiu Valley was intensely populated and settlements could be seen from one end to the other. At the 1818 census, Petroșani had 233 inhabitants, while the entire Valley counted 2,550. During this time, the main activity of the people was shepherding and no urban settlement had appeared yet. Petre Libardi
Petre Libardi (27 August 1942 – 14 August 2005) was a Romanian footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Club career Petre Libardi was born on 27 August 1942 in Câmpulung-Muscel and started playing football at Minerul Câmpulung. He went for a short period at Dinamo Pitești but then returned at Minerul Câmpulung. In 1963 he went to play at Jiul Petroșani in Divizia B, helping it promote to Divizia A three years later, making his debut in the competition on 21 August 1966 in a 7–0 victory against Steagul Roșu Brașov. His first performance with ''The Miners'' was reaching the 1972 Cupa României final where coach Eugen Iordache used him all the minutes in the eventual 2–0 loss in front of Rapid București. Libardi eventually won the competition two years later after a 4–2 victory against Politehnica Timișoara from the 1974 final in which coach Traian Ivănescu used him the whole match, helping Jiul win the first trophy in the club's history. 1973–74 Cupa României
The 1973–74 Cupa României was the 36th edition of Romania's most prestigious football cup competition. The title was won by Jiul Petroşani against Politehnica Timişoara. Format The competition is an annual knockout tournament. Each tie is played as a single leg on neutral ground. If a match is drawn after 90 minutes, the game goes in extra time, and if the scored is still tight after 120 minutes, then the winner will be established at penalty kicks.
