Petitions Committee
The Petitions Committee is a parliamentary committee of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Its role is to oversee petitions submitted to Parliament, including both electronically through the UK Parliament petitions website, and traditional paper petitions. The Committee is one of the youngest in the Commons, formed in 2015, and is made up of 11 backbench Members of Parliament. Procedure The process for e-petitions differs from the process for paper petitions, which can only be presented to the House of Commons by an MP. E-petitions can be submitted by British citizens and UK residents to the UK Government and Parliament via the UK Parliament petitions website. Petitions must be about something which Government or Parliament is responsible for, and must ask for a specific action from Parliament or Government. Neath ( cy, Castell-nedd) is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Christina Rees, a Labour and Co-operative MP. Christina Rees
Christina Rees (born 21 February 1954) is a Member of Parliament who served as Shadow Secretary of State for Wales in the Shadow Cabinet of Jeremy Corbyn from 2017 to 2020. She has been MP for Neath since 2015. Rees was elected as a Welsh Labour Co-operative Party MP, but was suspended from the party on 13 October 2022 due to allegations of bullying. Early life Rees was born in the village of Kenfig Hill in south Wales. Her father died when she was a young teenager and she was brought up by her mother. Rees became head girl of Cynffig Comprehensive School and excelled at a number of sports. Thomas Patrick Hunt (born 31 August 1988) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ipswich since 2019. He is a member of the Conservative Party. Earlier in his career, he was a councillor on East Cambridgeshire District Council from 2011 to 2017. Following the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough devolution deal, Hunt also worked as chief of staff to the elected Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Jonathan Edward Gullis (born 9 January 1990) is a Conservative Party politician and former teacher, who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stoke-on-Trent North since 2019. Education and early career Gullis attended Princethorpe College, an independent school near Rugby. He studied International Relations with Law at Oxford Brookes University (achieving Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2)) and PGCE Secondary Citizenship at the Institute of Education (now part of UCL). Gullis worked in schools from 2012 to 2019, comparing his teaching experiences to boxing. Nicholas Anthony Fletcher (born 15 July 1972) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Don Valley since the 2019 general election. He is the first Conservative to ever be elected for the seat. Early life and career Fletcher grew up in Armthorpe, Doncaster, and attended Armthorpe Comprehensive before gaining a HNC in electronic engineering in 1992. South Ribble (UK Parliament Constituency)
South Ribble is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Katherine Fletcher, a Conservative. History The seat of South Ribble was created for the 1983 general election, following the local government changes in the 1970s which saw the creation of the main constitutive borough of the same name. Former Preston North MP Robert Atkins won the South Ribble constituency in 1983 and fought the seat in every election up to the 1997 general election.
