Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School is a higher secondary school for boys in the union territory of Puducherry, India started in 1844. History It's started as a cum collage in 1744 The history of Petit Seminaire dates back to 1844 as a seminary attended by 89 students of whom 25 seminarians. In 1873 it became a public college. In 1880, Petit Seminaire stopped receiving government subsidy, and has maintained its financial independence. The student population showed an increase from 800 in 1903 to 1100 in 1907, of whom 700 were Catholics. In 1932, the English section was upgraded into a high school, preparing boys for matriculation and was affiliated with the Madras university. In July 1978, Petit Seminaire was born again, this time as Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School, offering two courses of study at the higher secondary level. Joseph-Isidore Godelle
Joseph-Isidore Godelle (7 March 1806 – 15 July 1867) was a missionary of Paris Foreign Missions Society and was the vicar apostolic of Pondicherry from 21 March 1861 until his death on 15 July 1867. He was born in Hannapes, Ardennes on 7 March 1806. After his ordination on 1 June 1833, he served as pastor in Remaucourt, Aisne and Logny-lès-Chaumont (now a part of Chaumont-Porcien). In 1834 he served in Librecy. He joined the Seminary of Paris Foreign Missions on 4 May 1839. He was sent to Pondicherry, India on 6 January 1840. In India Coming to India he served in Tanjore, Kovilur in Dharmapuri District, Tranquabar and also in Karaikal. He became the rector of the Petit Seminaire in Pondicherry and served for five years from 1846 to 1850. Savarinathan Michael Augustine (12 June 1933 – 4 November 2017) was an Indian prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as the sixth Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore from 1992 to 2004. Melchior-Marie-Joseph de Marion-Brésillac, S.M.A. (2 December 1813 – 25 June 1859) was a French Catholic prelate and the founder of the Society of African Missions. Early life and priesthood Brésillac was born at Castelnaudary, France, on December 2, 1813. He was eldest of five children. He joined the seminary and was ordained as a priest on December 22, 1838. Brésillac served briefly as a parish priest in the parish of Saint-Michel in the town of his birth. However, the young priest felt dissatisfied and began to discern his calling to mission.
