John Louis Petit
John Louis Petit (also known as The Reverend John Louis Petit; 31 May 1801 – 1 December 1868) was an artist and architectural historian whose paintings of buildings and landscapes, almost exclusively in Watercolor painting, watercolour, complemented his activities as one of the mid-19th century's leading writers and speakers on Church architecture, ecclesiastical architecture. He was a vocal opponent of the dominant architectural orthodoxies of the Gothic Revival architecture, Gothic Revival. During extensive travels both at home and in continental Europe (as well as the Middle East), Petit painted buildings of different periods and styles with a particular focus on medieval architecture. His subject matter included landscapes, modern urban views, utilitarian structures such as bridges and factories, and Classical ruins. Cheshire, Connecticut, Home Invasion Murders
On July 23, 2007, two home intruders entered the home of the Petit family in Cheshire, Connecticut, United States. The perpetrators, Linda Hayes (known as Steven Hayes at the time) and Joshua Andrew Komisarjevsky, initially planned only to burgle the house, but went on to murder Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters, 17-year-old Hayley Petit and 11-year-old Michaela Petit. Their father, Dr. William Petit, managed to escape despite sustaining severe injuries. Upon entering the Petits' home, Komisarjevsky beat William with a baseball bat, and he and Hayes restrained him in the basement, along with Jennifer and her daughters. Hayes later kidnapped Jennifer and forced her to withdraw money at a bank. After returning to the home, Hayes raped her and strangled her to death. Komisarjevsky raped 11-year-old Michaela. Philippe Petit
Philippe Petit (; born 13 August 1949) is a French highwire artist who gained fame for his unauthorized highwire walks between the towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris in 1971 and of Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1973, as well as between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City in August 1974. Since then, Petit has lived in New York, where he has been artist-in-residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, another site of his aerial performances. He has done wire walking as part of official celebrations in New York, across the United States, and in France and other countries, as well as teaching workshops on the art. Dinshaw Maneckji Petit
Sir Dinshaw Maneckji Petit, 1st Baronet (30 June 18235 May 1901) was an Indian industrialist and philanthropist who founded the first textile mills in India. He was part of the Petit family and became the first Petit baronet. He founded the "Persian Zoroastrian Amelioration Fund" in 1854 and was a member of the Governor-General's Legislative Council. The Petit Baronetcy, of Petit Hall on the Island of Bombay, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 1 September 1890 for the Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dinshaw Maneckji Petit. The baronetcy was created with remainder to Framjee Petit, second son of the first Baronet, and the heirs male of his body, failing which to the heirs male of the body of the first Baronet. Alexis Thérèse Petit (; 2 October 1791 – 21 June 1820) was a French physicist. Petit is known for his work on the efficiencies of air- and steam-engines, published in 1818 (''Mémoire sur l’emploi du principe des forces vives dans le calcul des machines''). His well-known discussions with the French physicist Sadi Carnot, founder of thermodynamics, may have stimulated Carnot in his reflexions on heat engines and thermodynamic efficiency. François Pourfour du Petit (24 June 1664 – 18 June 1741) was a French anatomist, ophthalmologist and surgeon who conducted careful anatomical studies of the human eye. He also conducted early experiments in neurology. Petit was born in Paris and was orphaned at an early age. He studied the classics at the Collège de Beauvais, College de Beauvais before studies in Belgium and Germany. He then studied medicine at the University of Montpellier, and afterwards surgery at the Hôpital de la Charité in Paris. During this period of time he also attended lectures by Guichard Joseph Duverney (1648–1730) in anatomy and Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656–1708) in botany. Antoine Petit (23 July 1722 – 21 October 1794) was a French physician, master of Joseph-Ignace Guillotin and Félix Vicq d'Azyr. Biography Antoine Petit, born in Orléans, was the son of a tailor. He received a disciplined education and, after studying at the Orléans college, he took up the study of medicine at the University of Paris where he received his doctorate in 1746. Soon he became a good teacher and lecturer in anatomy, surgery and childbirth. The accuracy of his diagnosis made him famous and he had a very busy practice, drawing people from every part of France, even from other parts of Europe. Henriette Petit (pseudonym of Ana Enriqueta Petit Marfan; March 3, 1894 - December 9, 1983), was a Chilean painter, member of the Grupo Montparnasse, of which she was a co-founder. Biography Ana Enriqueta Petit Marfan was born in Santiago, March 3, 1894.
