Petersville is an unincorporated community in Frederick County, Maryland, United States. Petersville is located at the junction of Maryland routes 79 and 180, northeast of Rosemont. History The village of Petersville has a long and prominent heritage in the history of Frederick County and the State of Maryland. Located along a main east-west route which became the Harpers Ferry and Frederick Turnpike (later MD Route 180), Petersville grew as a stop along the turnpike with businesses to serve travelers as well as local farmers. The land on which Petersville is situated was originally patented by Captain John Colvill as the "Merryland Tract" on November 5, 1731, containing over 6,000 acres. Shortly after the Revolutionary War, Petersville began to develop as a village, with lots facing the turnpike route and four cross streets. Petersville Parish, New Brunswick
Petersville is a geographic parish in Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, for governance purposes it was divided between CFB Gagetown and the local service districts of Wirral-Enniskillen and the parish of Petersville. Wirral-Enniskillen was part of Capital Region Service Commission (RSC11) and Petersville Parish was part of the Fundy Regional Service Commission (FRSC). Origin of name William Francis Ganong states that the parish was named in honour of Harry Peters, then Speaker of the House of Assembly. Peters' tenure as Speaker actually ended in 1827 but he continued to serve as MLA until 1843. Harry's brother Charles Jeffery Peters was Attorney General of New Brunswick when the parish was erected. Petersville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska, United States. It is part of the Anchorage Metropolitan Area. The population was 27 at the 2020 census. Geography Petersville is located in the northwest part of Matanuska-Susitna Borough at (62.376890, -150.746952). It is bordered to the east by the Trapper Creek CDP. The small community of Petersville sits along Petersville Road on the east side of Peters Creek, northwest of Alaska Route 3 (the Parks Highway) at Trapper Creek, and north of Anchorage. The CDP is bordered to the north by Denali National Park. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Petersville CDP has a total area of , of which are land and , or 0.14%, are water. Petersville Australia Limited was an Australian food producer. History Petersville was founded in 1961 when Edgell and Peters Ice Cream merged. In May 1981, H.C. Sleigh Co. launched a successful takeover offer and rebranded the company Petersville Sleigh. In 1982, it was taken over by the Adelaide Steamship Company. In October 1991 it was purchased by Pacific Dunlop. Some of the foods it produced or distributed were: ice cream, yogurt, cheese, butter and imported cheeses. Its head office (now Nestle Australia's) was in Wellington Road, Mulgrave, Victoria, which was itself known as Petersville.
