Peter Thomson (golfer)
Peter William Thomson (23 August 1929 – 20 June 2018) was an Australian professional golfer, often cited as the greatest and most successful golfer in Australian golf history. While also successful in academia, in the late 1940s Thomson turned professional and immediately had success on the Australasian circuits; beginning with victories in his home state of Victoria and then his first International victory the 1950 New Zealand Open followed by winning the 1951 Australian Open by 4 shots over one of his heroes Norman Von Nida. He then ventured over to Great Britain, trying his luck in the oldest championship of them all, the British Open where he finished T6th in his first Open championship in 1951. Peter Thomson (diplomat)
Peter Thomson (born 1948) is a Fijian diplomat and the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, and President of the United Nations General Assembly from September 2016 until September 2017. He served as Fiji's Permanent Representative to the United Nations February 2010 to August 2017, with concurrent duties as Fiji's Ambassador to Cuba. In his capacity as Fiji's Permanent Representative to the UN, in 2014, Thomson served as president of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund and the United Nations Office of Project Services. In the same capacity, in 2013, he took responsibility for Fiji's Chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China, the UN's largest negotiating group, made up of 133 developing countries. Peter Thomson (footballer)
Peter David Thomson (born 30 June 1977 in Bury, England) is a former professional footballer. Career Thomson began his career with Bury 1995. He joined Lancaster City in the summer of 1998, having spent a season with Chorley, and made an immediate impact in the Northern Premier League and his impressive scoring form of 24 goals in 28 appearances earned him a move to Dutch side NAC Breda for a five figure fee. He made five premier league team appearances for the Dutch side without scoring. Thomson joined Luton Town in 2000. In two seasons at Kenilworth Road he made 11 League appearances, scoring 3 goals. Scoring twice against Stoke City in a memorable 3–1 away win. He also played two League games whilst on loan at Rushden & Diamonds, scoring once on his debut. Peter Ashley Thomson (19 March 1936 – 15 January 2010) was an Australian Anglican priest, best known for influencing Tony Blair, the future British prime minister, while they were both at St John's College, Oxford.Anthony Seldon, Blair (The Free Press, 2005) He also influenced Geoff Gallop, who later became Premier of Western Australia. His thought was deeply influenced by the Scottish philosopher John Macmurray. Peter John Thomson (born 25 April 1965) is a Canadian rally race car driver with Thomson Motorsport, venture capitalist, and a member of the Thomson familythe wealthiest family in Canada. He and his two siblings each hold 10% stakes in The Woodbridge Company, the family's holding company, behind only their cousin, Sherry Brydson (Canada's second richest person and richest woman, as of 2024), who holds a 23.47% stake. Peter Donald Thomson
Peter Donald Thomson (1872–1955) was a Scottish minister who served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1934. Life He was born in Glasgow. He was educated at Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh. He studied divinity at Glasgow University then studied at the Free Church College in Glasgow. He was ordained as a minister in the Free Church of Scotland in 1897, his first charge being the newly built Peterculter Free Church near Aberdeen. After a short time in Kirkcaldy, he joined the United Free Church of Scotland and moved to Kelvinside (Botanic Gardens) in western Glasgow. The church was remodelled internally by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1909 under the umbrella of the Glasgow firm of Honeyman and Keppie.
