Peter Street
Peter Street (born 6 June 1980 in Tasmania) is a former professional Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League. At 211 cm (6' 11") he is the equal tallest player in the history of the VFL/AFL (along with Aaron Sandilands, Mason Cox and Ned Reeves). Originally drafted by the Geelong Football Club in the 1998 AFL draft, Street was traded to the Western Bulldogs at the end of the 2003 season. The ruckman was considered a cult figure at the Bulldogs, and during the 2006 season, amidst many long-term injuries to the club's taller players, he became an important ruckman for the club. He was, however, delisted by the Bulldogs in 2008. He was offered a two-year contract by the Brisbane Lions, but decided instead to join Victoria Police. Glenorchy Football Club
The Glenorchy District Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently playing in the Tasmanian State League and the Southern Football League in Tasmania, Australia. History The club is nicknamed the Magpies after its black and white playing strip, and was originally known as New Town Football Club (wearing a green and white strip) when it started out as a member of the Tasmanian Football League in 1919. New Town changed its name to Glenorchy in 1957 after absorbing the already established club Glenorchy Rovers and relocated its headquarters to KGV Oval at Glenorchy in Hobart's northern suburbs in the same year, playing its first match at the venue on 4 May 1957 against Hobart. Lara, Victoria
Lara is a town in Victoria, 18 km north-east of the Geelong CBD, inland from the Princes Freeway to Melbourne. Its population at the 2016 census was 16,355. History The explorers Hume and Hovell arrived at Lara on December 16, 1824, believing that they had reached Westernport Bay. They recorded that the Aboriginals described the bay as ''Djillong'' and land as ''Corayo'', suggesting origins for the names of Geelong and Corio. The area was originally named Kennedy's Creek but was also given several different names including Duck Ponds, Hovell's Creek, Cheddar, Swindon and Lara Lake. The area of Lara was no more than a few farms at this time. The railway through the town was opened in 1857 along with the local railway station, with several subdivisions then announced. St Joseph’s Football & Netball Club Inc, nicknamed the ''Joeys'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the residential suburb of Herne Hill, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Geelong Football Netball League, the major regional league in Geelong. History With less than four weeks to the start of the 1973 season junior club St Joseph’s was told that the Geelong & District Football League had passed a motion that all affiliated clubs had to field teams in all the main sections,(Seniors, Reserves, Under 18 and under 16). The club had to find a ground, a coach, committee and forty senior players necessary to keep the club afloat. Martin Bourke was appointed coach and Drew Reserve was obtained as a home ground. In Australian rules football, a ruckman or ruckwoman is typically a tall and athletic player who contests at centre bounces and stoppages (such as boundary throw-ins and ball-ups). The ruckman is one of the most important players on the field. They are often key to coaching strategy and winning centre clearances which result in the most goal kicking opportunities (inside 50s). The role of the ruckman in Australian rules is similar to a lock in rugby union contesting a line-out. The key differences are that with the exception of boundary throw-ins, the ball is almost always thrown straight up high into the air rather than horizontally, so in this respect, the ruckman is similar to a basketball centre.
