Peter N. Fedorov
Peter N. Fedorov (born 1951) is a Ukrainian astronomer, specialist in astrometry and Galactic dynamics, known for his work on compiling the XPM star catalogue and determining the inertial coordinate system in the Milky Way. Head of the head of the Laboratory of Astrometry at Kharkiv Observatory, professor of the Department of Astronomy and Space Informatics at the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Soledar
Soledar (, ; , ; ) is a destroyed city in Bakhmut Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. Situated in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, the city was formerly highly important for its salt mining industry, from which its name Soledar is derived. The last estimate of its population before its destruction was 10,490, in 2022. From 1925 until 1991, it was known as Karlo-Libknekhtovsk after the German socialist Karl Liebknecht. During the Battle of Soledar of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Soledar was completely destroyed and depopulated by Russian forces, who have occupied the ruins of the city and the surrounding area since January 2023. The Milky Way or Milky Way Galaxy is the galaxy that includes the Solar System, with the name describing the #Appearance, galaxy's appearance from Earth: a hazy band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars in other arms of the galaxy, which are so far away that they cannot be individually distinguished by the naked eye. The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy with a Galaxy#Isophotal diameter, D25 isophotal diameter estimated at , but only about 1,000 light-years thick at the spiral arms (more at the bulge). Mykolaiv Observatory (full name: ''Research Institute “Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory”'', ) is an astronomical observatory in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. History Naval Observatory (1821–1912) Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory was founded in 1821 by Admiral Aleksey Samuilovich Greig (1775–1845) as Naval Observatoryto ensure the Black Sea Fleet with time, nautical charts and teaching naval officers to utilize astronomical methods of orientation. Stellar dynamics is the branch of astrophysics which describes in a statistical way the collective motions of stars subject to their mutual gravity. The essential difference from celestial mechanics is that the number of body N \gg 10. Bakhmut Raion (), known as Artemivsk Raion () between 1924 and 2016, is a raion (district) within the northeastern part of Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine. Its administrative center is Bakhmut. Astrometry is a branch of astronomy that involves precise measurements of the positions and movements of stars and other Astronomical object, celestial bodies. It provides the kinematics and physical origin of the Solar System and this galaxy, the Milky Way. History The history of astrometry is linked to the history of star catalogues, which gave astronomers reference points for objects in the sky so they could track their movements. This can be dated back to the ancient Greek astronomer Hipparchus, who around 190 BC used the catalogue of his predecessors Timocharis and Aristillus to discover Earth's precession.
