Peter Maxwell (director)
Peter Maxwell (23 January 1921 – 5 April 2013) born as Peter Magitai, was a British, and later Australian film director, director and screenwriter of television and film. Biography He was born in Vienna, Austria, to newspaper journalist Leo Magatai and wife Johanna. His family fled Vienna in the 1930s, and he changed his surname to enter the British Army. After having been posted to India, he returned to Britain to work as an assistant director to Alexander Korda in 1949. He worked briefly in Australia in the early 1960s before returning to England. In 1967 he emigrated to Australia permanently, where he directed such films as ''Country Town'' and television series including ''Bellbird (TV series), Bellbird'', ''Riptide (Australian TV series), Rip Tide'' and ''A Country Practice''. Peter Trevor Maxwell, 27th Baron de Ros (born 23 December 1958), is the premier baron of England, by virtue of Baron de Ros being the oldest extant barony in the Peerage of England. Early life Lord de Ros is the only son of Lieutenant-Commander John David Maxwell RN and of Georgiana Maxwell, 26th Baroness de Ros, a ''suo jure'' peeress. He inherited the barony on the death of his mother in 1983. He was educated at Headfort School, in Kells, Ireland, as well as Down High School, in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, before going to a boarding school in the Republic of Ireland. Peter Maxwell, Lord Maxwell (1919–1994) was a 20th-century Scottish lawyer who served as a Senator of the College of Justice. Life He was born on 21 May 1919 to the old, established landowning family of the Maxwells of Munches, near Dalbeattie in the historic county of Kirkcudbrightshire. He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire. In the Second World War, he served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and afterwards studied law at Balliol College, Oxford, later was called to the Scottish Bar as an advocate in 1951. He served as Sheriff Principal for Dumfries and Galloway from 1970 to 1973, succeeding David Brand. In 1973 he was elected a Senator of the College of Justice.
