Peter Mathuki
Peter Mutuku Mathuki (born 20 February 1969), is a Kenyan Diplomat, Private Sector Development Expert and politician who served as an EALA MP between 2012-2017 and the East African Business Council (EABC) from 2018-2021. He is the 6th and current Secretary General of the East African Community. He was appointed to that position by the East African Community Heads of State on 27 February 2021. Background and education Mathuki holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Strategic Management and Regional Integration from the University of Nairobi. Career Dr. Mathuki currently serves as the Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), steering the Regional integration agenda. This is a list of the Secretaries-General of the East African Community since the re-established East African Community, after the EAC Treaty 1999 came into force in July 2000. Since then there have been five secretaries-general appointed by the relevant heads of state. Both the secretary-general position and the chairman position is appointed on a rotational basis by the respective partner states. The secretary-general has to be a deputy secretary-general to be appointed and at a time, there are four deputy secretaries in place.
