Peter Hewitt (businessman)
Peter Lionel Raleigh Hewitt (born 24 March 1953) is an English business and civic figure. Early life Hewitt was born in Yorkshire at Catterick Military Hospital. Educated at Wellington College, where he was awarded a flying scholarship from the RAF at the age of 16, gaining his private pilot's licence a few months after his 17th birthday. At Wellington, he took part in gymnastics and athletics (pole vault), representing the school at various levels. Career In 1991, he set up Peter Hewitt Associates, a corporate finance and residential property consultancy, that helped raise funds under the Business Expansion Scheme. During this period he achieved a solution on behalf of Close Brothers for the residential development of land in Cambridgeshire via a PFI type scheme to the USAFE. Peter Hewitt (born 9 October 1962) is an English film director and Screenwriter, writer. Career Upon graduating from the National Film and Television School in 1990, Hewitt flew to the United States with his British Academy of Film and Television Arts, BAFTA award-winning short film, ''The Candy Show'', in hand. Once there, he called executives from major Hollywood studios and asked if he could show them his film. Soon after, he landed an agent and made his feature film directorial debut with ''Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey'' (1991). Although not as big a success as the original, ''Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure'' (1989), the movie made a profit. He turned to TV next, directing the first two hours of the miniseries ''Wild Palms''. He directed Disney's ''Tom and Huck'' in 1995 which was based on Mark Twain's ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer''. Peter Cooper Hewitt (May 5, 1861 – August 25, 1921) was an American electrical engineer and inventor, who invented the first mercury-vapor lamp in 1901. Hewitt was issued on September 17, 1901. In 1903, Hewitt created an improved version that possessed higher color qualities which eventually found widespread industrial use. Early life Hewitt was born in New York City, the son of New York City Mayor Abram Hewitt and the grandson of Business magnate, industrialist Peter Cooper. He was educated at the Stevens Institute of Technology and the Columbia School of Engineering and Applied Science, Columbia University School of Mines. Career In 1901, Hewitt invented and patented a mercury-vapor lamp that was the forerunner of the fluorescent lamp.
