Peter Goldsworthy
Peter David Goldsworthy AM (born 12 October 1951) is an Australian writer and medical practitioner. He has won major awards for his short stories, poetry, novels, and opera libretti. Goldsworthy began his writing life as a poet, as described in his 2013 comic memoir, ''His Stupid Boyhood'', and regards poetic principles as the basis of all his writing. The Australian expatriate writer Clive James comments that Goldsworthy's poetry is often seen as a sideline, but argues that it is "at the centre of his achievement". Maestro (novel)
''Maestro'' is a 1989 novella written by Australian author Peter Goldsworthy. It is a bildungsroman novel dealing with themes of art and life. The book was shortlisted for the 1990 Miles Franklin Award. It has been translated into German, and is a set text on year-twelve syllabuses in several Australian states. It was chosen for the inaugural Australian "One Book—One Town" project. In 2003, it appeared as number 22 on the Australian Society of Authors' list of the top-forty Australian books ever published. Plot summary The protagonist, a boy called Paul Crabbe, is taught piano by his teacher (or maestro), Eduard Keller. Paul dislikes his teacher at first, but by the end of the book has grown to appreciate him dearly. Paul learns the limits of his own musical ability through Keller, but he also grows to understand himself and Keller enough to write the novel. The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. Text Publishing is an independent Australian publisher of fiction and non-fiction, based in Melbourne, Victoria. Company background Text Media was founded in Melbourne in 1990 by Diana Gribble and Eric Beecher, along with designer Chong Weng Ho and others, with a small book publishing division known as Text Publishing. Michael Heyward joined in 1992, and the small publishing house became independent in 1994. Radio National, known on-air as RN, is an Australia-wide public service broadcasting radio network run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). From 1947 until 1985, the network was known as ABC Radio 2. Mike Ladd (born 1959) is an Australian poet and radio presenter. Mike Ladd was born in Berkeley, California while his Australian parents were living and working in the United States, but he returned to Australia when he was one year old, and grew up in the Adelaide Hills. Ladd began writing poetry at a very young age, but took it up seriously while he was at the University of Adelaide, studying English and Philosophy. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1979. He then joined a new wave rock band called "The Lounge" as a singer and lyricist, and later travelled and worked in Europe and Africa. Returning to Australia, in 1983 he joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Adelaide, working as a sound engineer and then as a producer. Graeme John Koehne (born 3 August 1956), is an Australian composer and music educator. He is best known for his orchestral and ballet scores, which are characterised by direct communicative style and embrace of tertian harmony. His orchestral trilogy ''Unchained Melody'', ''Powerhouse'', and ''Elevator Music'' makes allusions to Hollywood film score traditions, cartoon music, popular Latin music and other dance forms.
