Peter Briggs (born 12 December 1965) is an English cinematographer and screenwriter. Although he has worked in the motion picture industry for more than 20 years, he is best known for the film ''Hellboy''. His films draw heavily on sources as diverse as weird fiction, fantasy, and war. Film career A former cinematographer, the British-born screenwriter developed fantasy-genre material for Paramount Pictures in the UK in the early part of his career. Briggs wrote a screenplay for '' Alien vs. Predator'' in 1991, which sold to 20th Century Fox. The project languished in development hell for many years until a version was brought to the screen in 2004. Briggs' draft was cited as an example of strong action writing in Chris Gore's book ''The 50 Greatest Movies Never Made''. (Michael) Peter Briggs OBE (born 3 December 1944) was Master of the Company of Educators in the City of London in 2011/2012. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2010 New Year Honours, shortly after his retirement from Roehampton University. Peter Briggs is the longtime Director of Squash at The Apawamis Club in Rye, New York, and a member of the U.S. Squash Hall of Fame. Early career Peter Sheffield Briggs, the son of English parents and a native of Greenwich, Connecticut, first learned squash at the Field Club in his home town. He continued to pursue racquet sports at Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts where he also excelled in soccer. Briggs played #1 on the tennis team for 3 years and served as its captain in 1968 and 1969. He was considered one of the Private School Tennis League's best players. In his senior year he claimed a victory in the Class A competition over David Talbott from Deerfield (the brother of his future doubles partner Mark Talbott) in the 1969 New England Squash Tournament.
