Peter Augustus Jay (born 1821)
Peter Augustus Jay (October 23, 1821 – October 31, 1855) was an American heir. He was a grandson of Founding Father John Jay. Early life Jay was born in New York City on October 23, 1821. He was the second son among eight children born to Mary Rutherfurd (née Clarkson) Jay (1786–1838) and Peter Augustus Jay (1776–1843), the Recorder of New York City. His siblings included Dr. John Clarkson Jay, Mary Rutherfurd Jay (who married Frederick Prime); Sarah Jay (who married William Dawson); Catherine Helena Jay (who married Dr. Henry Augustus DuBois); Anna Maria Jay (who married Henry Evelyn Pierrepont); among others. His paternal grandparents were Sarah Van Brugh (née Livingston) Jay and John Jay, the Founding Father who was a diplomat, the first Chief Justice of the United States and two-time Governor of New York State. Augustus Jay
Augustus Jay (October 17, 1850 – December 25, 1919) was an American diplomat and member of the prominent Jay family. Early life Jay was born on October 17, 1850, in Washington, D.C. He was the only child of Peter Augustus Jay and Josephine (née Pearson) Jay (1829–1852). His mother died on January 3, 1852, at just twenty-two years old. After her death, his father committed to his sole care before his death three years later on October 31, 1855, in New York City. His paternal grandfather was Peter Augustus Jay, a member of the New York State Assembly and Recorder of New York City, and grandson of John Jay, Founding Father and first United States Chief Justice. John Rutherfurd
John Rutherfurd (September 20, 1760February 23, 1840) was an American politician and land surveyor. He represented New Jersey in the United States Senate from 1791 to 1798. Early life and education Rutherfurd was born on September 20, 1760, in New York City to Walter Rutherfurd (1723–1804) and Catherine Alexander (1727–1801), daughter of James Alexander and Mary Spratt Provoost. His father Walter, a veteran of the British Army, was a hostage of the Patriots during the Revolutionary War while John was a teenager. Rutherfurd attended the College of New Jersey, which is now Princeton University, where he studied law. His sister, Mary Rutherfurd, was married to Maj. Gen. Matthew Clarkson. Woodbury Kane
Woodbury Kane (February 8, 1859 – December 5, 1905) was a yachtsman and bon vivant, and member of Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders. A director of the Metropolitan Register Company, Kane served aboard the ''Columbia'' in the 1899 America's Cup race. He also was a noted hunter of big game, both in North America and South Africa.
