Peter Aitken
Peter Gerald Aitken (born 30 June 1954) is a Welsh former footballer who played nearly 300 games in the Football League. Career Aitken began his career as an apprentice with Bristol Rovers, making his debut in the 1972–73 season. He joined local rivals Bristol City in 1980, and two years later, with the club in danger of folding, Aitken was one of the "Ashton Gate Eight", eight players who agreed to terminate their contracts to save the club. The others were David Rodgers, Geoff Merrick, Julian Marshall, Chris Garland, Jimmy Mann, Trevor Tainton, and Gerry Sweeney. While with Rovers he was the club captain, and after joining City he became the only player to captain both Bristol Clubs. Aitken joined York City, playing 18 times before the end of the season. Penarth
Penarth (, ) is a town and community in the Vale of Glamorgan ( cy, Bro Morgannwg), Wales, exactly south of Cardiff city centre on the west shore of the Severn Estuary at the southern end of Cardiff Bay. Penarth is a wealthy seaside resort in the Cardiff Urban Area, and the second largest town in the Vale of Glamorgan, next only to the administrative centre of Barry. James Arthur Mann (born 15 December 1952, Goole, Yorkshire) is an English retired footballer who made over 230 appearances in the Football League as a midfielder predominantly for Bristol City. Career Jimmy Mann began his career at Leeds United. He joined Bristol City in 1974 and gained renown as a skillful attacking midfielder who played a role in the Robins' promotion to the First Division under Alan Dicks in 1976. He remained at the club until the 1981–82 season, when he left the club as one of the "Ashton Gate Eight". He is noted for scoring a spectacular long-range goal against Nottingham Forest during the Robins' stay in the First Division. Lindsay William Parsons (20 March 1946 – 12 April 2019) was an English professional footballer who played in The Football League for Bristol Rovers and Torquay United. Playing career Parsons is from the Barton Hill area of Bristol and played football as a schoolboy for South Gloucester Boys Club and New Cheltenham before signing as an apprentice with Bristol Rovers in 1961 at the age of 15. He signed his first professional contract with Rovers on his eighteenth birthday and made his League debut shortly afterwards. He stayed with Bristol Rovers until 1977, fifteen years after he originally joined them, and made a total of 358 League appearances without scoring any goals. Tony Ricketts (born c. 1958) is a former semi-professional footballer. As a player, at 24 years old, he was offered a two-year contract with Bristol City, which he refused. In 1989, he joined Bath City, where he became first a coach and then manager, spending seven years at the club in all. He played 700 games at conference level in his career. After leaving Bath, Ricketts worked for the Gloucestershire FA running the county's representative teams, as well as the ladies and under-18s sides. From here he earned a job with the Bristol Rovers women's team, who at the time were in the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division.
