Pete Laney
James Earl "Pete" Laney (born March 20, 1943) is an American former politician of the Democratic Party. He was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1973 to 2007. A resident of Hale Center, Texas, Laney served as House Speaker from 1993 to 2003. As of 2022, Laney is the most recent Democrat to serve as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. Political life During his tenure, Laney was widely praised for demonstrating principle, integrity, and character in his leadership of the House. He was cited by Republican Governor George W. Bush, during the 2000 presidential campaign, as a model of legislative bipartisan co-operation. Albert Ely Edwards (March 19, 1937 – April 29, 2020) was an American politician who served in the Texas Legislature representing District 146. He is best known as the principal proponent of the Juneteenth Texas state holiday, approved in 2007, which in 2021 became a federal holiday. Elmer Lois Tarbox (March 7, 1916 – November 2, 1987) was an American military aviator, businessman, and politician. Tarbox served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1967–1977. Early years Elmer Tarbox was born in Bishop, Oklahoma on March 7, 1916 to Jake Tarbox and May Tarbox (née Riley). Tarbox was raised in the Texas Panhandle city of Higgins, Texas. Education Tarbox attended Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) and lettered in Red Raiders basketball, Red Raiders football, and Red Raiders track teams. Jim Landtroop
James F. Landtroop Jr. (born January 18, 1968) is an American politician and insurance businessman. He has previously served in the Texas House of Representatives, serving District 85 for one term in the early 2010s. Political career Landtroop first campaigned for the Texas House of Representatives in 2006, challenging Joe Heflin as both fought for the seat vacated by the retiring Pete Laney. In 2010, Landtroop challenged Heflin again after defeating David Andrews in a partisan primary election. Landtroop won the election, garnering 62% of the vote.
