Petar Tanchev
Petar Tanchev Zhelev () (1920–1992) was a Bulgarian politician, Secretary (Chairman) of the Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union (BAP) from 1974 to 1989, and a deputy in the I (1950–1953), II (1954–1957), III (1958–1961), IV (1962–1965), V (1966–1971), VI (1971–1976), VII (1976–1981), VIII (1981–1986) and IX National Assemblies (1986–1990). He was born in 1920 in a village near Haskovo. In 1935, he became a member of the left wing of the Bulgarian Agrarian Youth Union and in between 1940 and 1942, he was arrested for his political activity. In 1944, he graduated in law from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". Following the 1944 coup d'état, the BAP became the central leadership and in 1974, he became the leader of the party. He acted as the Minister of Justice (1962–1966), and the first deputy prime minister (1971–1974). He also was the first deputy chairman of the State Council from 1974 to 1989. The International Lenin Peace Prize (, ''mezhdunarodnaya Leninskaya premiya mira)'' was a Soviet Union award named in honor of Vladimir Lenin. It was awarded by a panel appointed by the Soviet government, to notable individuals whom the panel indicated had "strengthened peace among comrades". It was founded as the International Stalin Prize for Strengthening Peace Among Peoples, but was renamed the International Lenin Prize for Strengthening Peace Among Peoples (, ''Mezhdunarodnaya Leninskaya premiya «Za ukrepleniye mira mezhdu narodami»'') as a result of de-Stalinization. Unlike the Nobel Prize, the Lenin Peace Prize was usually awarded to several people a year rather than to just one individual. Andrey Karlov Lukanov ( ; 26 September 1938 – 2 October 1996) was a Bulgarian politician. Between February and November 1990, Lukanov was the final Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bulgaria. Biography Early life Lukanov was born in Moscow, USSR, in the family of Karlo Lukanov, (1897–1982), a Bulgarian communist émigré. Lukanov's family moved back to Bulgaria after the communist takeover of 1944 when Lukanov was only 6 years old. His father became an important figure in the party and served as foreign minister of Bulgaria from 1956 to 1961. Political career Andrey became a member of the party in 1963 and began a career in the foreign service. He helped represent Bulgaria in the United Nations and Comecon. He rose through the ranks of the foreign service to become minister of foreign economic affairs in 1987, resigning in 1989. Aleksi Ivanov Vasilev ( Bulgarian: Алекси Иванов Василев), born Alexe Ion Bădărău (October 22, 1922 – June 9, 1997) was a Bulgarian politician from the Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union who was Minister of Agriculture and Forestry in the government of Georgi Atanasov from March 24, 1986, until December 19, 1988, and Deputy Chairman of Council of Ministers. Early life He was born in Mihail Kogălniceanu, Tulcea to a Romanian father and Bulgarian mother. He graduated from junior high school in his native village in Romania, then in 1936 - 1938 he was a worker in a factory for hemp and manila ropes in Tulcea. In 1939, he returned to his village. Todor Hristov Zhivkov ( ; 7 September 1911 – 5 August 1998) was a Bulgarians, Bulgarian communist statesman who served as the ''de facto'' leader of the People's Republic of Bulgaria (PRB) from 1954 until 1989 as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party.
