Pessosaurus
''Pessosaurus'' is an extinct genus of ichthyosaurs which existed during the Middle Triassic period. There are two species: Wiman. C. (1910) Ichthyosaurs from the Triassic Spitzbergen Svalbard ( , ), previously known as Spitsbergen or Spitzbergen, is a Norwegian archipelago that lies at the convergence of the Arctic Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean. North of mainland Europe, it lies about midway between the northern coast o ...s Swedish_language.html" ;"title="n Swedish language">Swedish ''Bulletin of the Geological Institution of the University of Upsala'' 10: 125–148. * ''Pessosaurus polaris'' Hulke, 1873 * ''Pessosaurus suevicus'' Huene, 1916 See also * List of ichthyosaurs * Timeline of ichthyosaur research References Middle Triassic ichthyosaurs Taxa named by Carl Wiman Fossil taxa described in 1910 Ichthyosauromorph genera {{triassic-reptile-stub ...

List Of Ichthyosaurs
This list of ichthyosauromorphs is a comprehensive listing of all Genus, genera that have ever been included in the clade Ichthyosauromorpha, excluding purely vernacular terms. The list includes all commonly accepted genera, but also genera that are now considered invalid, doubtful (''nomen dubium''), or were not formally published (''nomen nudum''), as well as synonym (zoology), junior synonyms of more established names, and genera that are no longer considered ichthyopterygian. Non-ichthyosaur ichthyopterygians shall be noted as such. This list contains genera. Scope and terminology There is no official, canonical list of ichthyosauromorph genera but one of the most thorough attempts can be found at the "Ichthyosauromorpha" section of Mikko Haaramo's Phylogeny Archive. Naming conventions and terminology follow the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Technical terms used include: * Synonym (zoology), Junior synonym: A name which describes the same taxon as a previousl ...

Middle Triassic
In the geologic timescale, the Middle Triassic is the second of three epoch (geology), epochs of the Triassic period (geology), period or the middle of three series (stratigraphy), series in which the Triassic system (stratigraphy), system is divided in chronostratigraphy. The Middle Triassic spans the time between annum, Ma and Ma (million years ago). It is preceded by the Early Triassic Epoch and followed by the Late Triassic Epoch. The Middle Triassic is divided into the Anisian and Ladinian age (geology), ages or stage (stratigraphy), stages. Formerly the middle series in the Triassic was also known as Muschelkalk. This name is now only used for a specific unit of stratum, rock strata with approximately Middle Triassic age, found in western Europe. Middle Triassic life Following the Permian–Triassic extinction event, the most devastating of all mass-extinctions, life recovered slowly. In the Middle Triassic, many groups of organisms reached higher diversity again, s ...

Carl Wiman
Carl Johan Josef Ernst Wiman (March 10, 1867 – June 15, 1944) was a Swedish Palaeontology, palaeontologist, the first professor of palaeontology and historical geology at Uppsala University, and the father of Swedish vertebrate palaeontology. Wiman was instrumental in the construction of the Museum of Evolution of Uppsala University#Paleontological section, Palaeontological Museum of Uppsala University (now part of the Museum of Evolution of Uppsala University, Museum of Evolution), which contains the largest collection of Chinese fossil vertebrate material outside China. He is responsible for naming the genera ''Helopus'' (renamed ''Euhelopus'' because ''Helopus'' was already in use) and ''Tanius'', and the species ''Pentaceratops, Pentaceratops fenestratus'' and ''Parasaurolophus, Parasaurolophus tubicen''. He was also the first to suggest that the hollow cranial crests of lambeosaurine hadrosaurid, duckbill dinosaurs could be used as a horn-like noisemaker. Early lif ...
