Peruvian Clásico
The Peruvian Clásico (''El Clásico Peruano'') or the Classic of the Classics of Peruvian Football (''El Clásico de los Clásicos del Futbol Peruano'') is the name given to Peru's biggest football (soccer), football local derby, derby between Club Alianza Lima, Alianza Lima and Club Universitario de Deportes, Universitario. The rivalry between these two clubs started in their first game on 23 September 1928 when the two first faced off in a violent game. Both clubs come from the capital city, Lima. The rivalry has given rise to an intense conflict between the working class and upper class of Lima, as the city went through a series of changes in the late-1920s, including public works and better education. Club Alianza Lima, more commonly known as simply Alianza Lima, is a Peru, Peruvian professional sports club based in La Victoria District, Lima, La Victoria District of Lima, Peru. Club Sporting Cristal S.A., shortened to Sporting Cristal, is a Peruvian sports club located in the city of Lima, best known for its association football, soccer team. The CONMEBOL Libertadores, also known as Copa Libertadores de América (), is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960. It is the highest level of competition in South American club football. The 1987 Torneo Descentralizado, the top tier of Peruvian football (soccer), was played by 30 teams. The season started in 1987 and ended in early 1988. The national champion was Universitario . The national championship was divided into two tournaments, the Regional Tournament and the Descentralized Tournament. The winners of each tournament faced off in the final and received the berths for the Copa Libertadores 1988.
