Peruth Chemutai
Peruth Chemutai (born July 10, 1999) is a Ugandan steeplechase runner. She won the gold medal in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, becoming the first Ugandan woman ever to win an Olympic medal. She added a silver medal in this event at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Chemutai is the Ugandan record holder for the 3000 m steeplechase and 5 kilometres road race. Career Hailing from the Bukwo District, she took up running in 2013 after attending the District Athletics Championships in Bukwo as a casual fan. At the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Apia, she won silver medals in the 1500 metres and 3000 metres. In 2016, the 17-year-old finished in seventh place in the final of the women's 3000 m steeplechase event at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Bukwo District
Bukwo District is a district in the Eastern Region of Uganda. The town of Bukwo is its main political, administrative, and commercial center and the site of the district headquarters. Location Bukwo District is bordered by Amudat District to the north, Kenya to the east and south, and Kween District to the west and northwest. 2023 African Games
The 13th African Games, also known as Accra 2023, were hosted by Ghana from 8–23 March 2024. Despite having Accra as the main host city, the games were held in two sub-host cities: Kumasi and Cape Coast. The games were initially planned to be held in August 2023, however a failure to complete facilities on time and arguments over marketing revenue resulted in the games being delayed to March 2024. Athletics At The 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games
Athletics was one of the nine sports of the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games. Held between 7 and 9 September, the events were staged at the Apia Park Sports Complex in Apia, Samoa. Each Commonwealth Games Association was permitted to send up to two athletes per event and one team per each of the three relay events. The age of participating athletes was limited to 16- and 17-year-olds only. This meant that for 2015 athletes must have been born in 1998 or 1999 to be eligible to take part. Compared to the previous edition, the 2015 programme did not include the 2000 metres steeplechase, hammer throw, and triple jump disciplines. Two relay races were added to the programme, over distances of 4 × 200 m and 4 × 400 m. The highlight of the first day was a run of 10.20 seconds by the winner of the boys' 100 metres, Tlotliso Leotlela. Athletics At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the Games. They were due to be held from 31 July – 9 August 2020, at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed to 2021, with the track and field events set for 30 July – 8 August. The sport of athletics at these Games was split into three distinct sets of events: track and field events, remaining in Tokyo, and road running events and racewalking events, moved to Sapporo. A total of 48 events were held, one more than in 2016, with the addition of a mixed relay event. The steeplechase is an obstacle race in Sport of athletics, athletics which derives its name from the Steeplechase (horse racing), steeplechase in horse racing. The foremost version of the event is the 3000 metres steeplechase. The 2000 metres steeplechase is the next most common distance.
