Peru is scheduled to compete at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile from October 20 to November 5, 2023. This was Peru's 18th appearance at the Pan American Games, having competed at every Games since 1951, except for the second edition in 1955. Sport shooter Nicolás Pacheco and surfer María Fernanda Reyes, Reyes were the country's flagbearers during the 2023 Pan American Games opening ceremony, opening ceremony. Athlete Gladys Tejeda was initially selected as flagbearer but decided to step aside at the last moment in order to focus on her marathon competition scheduled for October 22, two days later. Meanwhile, squash athlete Diego Elías and race walker Kimberly García were the country's flagbearers during the 2023 Pan American Games closing ceremony, closing ceremony. Cycling At The 2023 Pan American Games
Cycling competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile will be held at five venues across Santiago. The BMX racing competitions will be held in the BMX Track in Peñalolén, while the Esplanade of urban sports will feature freestyle BMX events. San Cristobal Metropolitan Park will stage the mountain biking competitions, and the Streets of Isla de Maipo and Santiago will stage the road competitions. Finally the velodrome will stage the track cycling competitions. 22 medal events will contested, four in BMX, two in mountain biking and four in road cycling and 12 in track cycling. Each discipline is gender neutral in terms of events. A total of 250 cyclists qualified to compete at the games. Qualification A total of 283 cyclists (142 men and 141 women) will qualify to compete. 187 will qualify in road/track, 36 in mountain biking and 60 in BMX. Stefano Peschiera
Stefano Peschiera (born 16 January 1995) is a Peruvian competitive sailor and Olympic medal winner. He won Peru's 5th medal in history after 32 years of Peru not getting a medal. He has been recognized with the "Laureles Deportivos del Perú", the country's highest recognition to an athlete, and has been given the Peruvian Navy's Medal of Honor and the Medal of Honor in the grade of "Knight" from the Peruvian Congress. He also won the gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Panamerican Games. He was named College Sailor of the Year by the US Naval Academy in 2018 sailing for College of Charleston. In 2018, he was recognized by the College of Charleston with the J. Steward Walker Cup, the highest award given by the athletics department and the Charleston Athletic Fund to that years' outstanding student-athlete (out of 500). Squash competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile were held at the Centro de Entrenamiento del Tenis y Deportes de Raqueta from October 31 to November 5. Seven medal events were contested, a singles, doubles and team event for each gender along with a mixed doubles event. Qualification A total of 50 squash athletes (25 men and 25 women) will qualify to compete. Each nation may enter a maximum of 6 athletes (three per gender), except for the NOCs that have qualified in Cali 2021. The host nation, Chile automatically qualified the maximum team size. Luz Mery Rojas
Luz Mery Rojas Llanco (born 20 June 1993) is a Peruvian female long-distance runner who competes over distances from 5000 metres to the marathon. She was the gold medallist in the 10,000 metres at the 2023 South American Championships in Athletics and went on to represent Peru at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the 10,000 m. In 2020, Mesinas won the inaugural edition of the Gordo Barreda Cup, a tribute to Peruvian surfing legend Sergio Barreda. Surfing competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games are scheduled to be held between October 24 and 30, 2023 at Punta de Lobos beach in the Pichilemu commune of Chile. 8 medal events are scheduled to be contested (four per each gender). A total of 88 surfers will qualify to compete at the games. The longboard event will be used as a qualifier for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. Qualification A total of 88 surfers will qualify across various qualification tournaments. The host nation Chile, will be automatically be allocated ten quota spots across the eight events. In the shortboard category, a country can enter two athletes, with a maximum one in all other categories. A country can enter a maximum ten surfers (five per gender).
