Persatuan Sepakbola Surabaya ( 'Football Association of Surabaya'), commonly known as Persebaya Surabaya or simply Persebaya, is an Indonesian professional football club based in Surabaya, East Java. It currently plays in the Liga 1, the top flight of Indonesian football. It is regarded as one of the most iconic and successful teams in the country, winning numerous Indonesian League titles and tournaments. 2021–22 Liga 1 (Indonesia)
The 2021–22 Liga 1, also known as BRI Liga 1 for sponsorship reasons, was the fifth season of Liga 1 under its current name and the 12th season of the top-flight Indonesian professional league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2008. The season started on 27 August 2021. Bali United were the defending champions from the 2019 season after the 2020 season was abandoned and declared void after three matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 25 March 2022, Bali United succeeded in defending their title for the second consecutive season, after second placed Persib draw to Persik, giving Bali United a 4-point lead with only one game left. 2017 Liga 2 (Indonesia)
The 2017 Liga 2 was the inaugural season of the Liga 2 under its current name, and the eighth season under its current league structure. Persebaya won the title after a 3–2 win over PSMS in the final at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium, Bandung on 28 November 2017. Perserikatan is a term that commonly refers to national amateur football competitions in Indonesia held between 1931 and 1994 before the formation of Liga Indonesia, organized by the PSSI, the Indonesian football federation. The competition involved hundreds clubs in Indonesia and was divided into several levels. In English, the term ''Perserikatan'' may literally translate to ''inter-association football championship'' as this competition involved all regional-level football associations in Indonesia. Since 1979, in parallel, another national football league, Galatama (''The Premier League''), was established for semi professional football clubs. Stadion Gelora Bung Tomo is a multi-purpose stadium in Benowo, Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. It is a part of the Surabaya Sports Center.
