Perryville is an unincorporated community located at the intersection of Interstate 78 and Perryville Road within Union Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The Perryville Station, one of the New Jersey State Police Troop B road stations, is located here. Interstate 78 (I-78) is an east–west route stretching from Union Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, to New York City. The Historical Marker Database (HMdb.org) is an online database that documents locations of numerous historical markers and commemorative plaques in the United States as well as other countries. The database was launched in 2006 by computer programmer J. J. Prats. The HMdb was launched in 2006 with 179 markers that Prats had personally documented. By 2015 the site listed more than 74,000 markers. In addition to listing markers in the United States, the site also lists some markers from more than 40 other countries. By the start of 2018, the site documented more than 100,000 markers. By the start of 2025, more than 225,000 markers had been documented. The Battle of Lake Erie, also known as the Battle of Put-in-Bay, was fought on 10 September 1813, on Lake Erie off the shores of Ohio during the War of 1812. The Perryville Tavern, also known as the Perryville Inn, is a historic building at 167 Perryville Road in Perryville, Union Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 15, 1977 for its significance in architecture and commerce. The tavern is located west of Clinton, south of the intersection of Interstate 78 and Perryville Road. Oliver Hazard Perry (August 23, 1785 – August 23, 1819) was a United States Navy officer from South Kingstown, Rhode Island.
