Perfect Pussy was an American rock band from Syracuse, New York. The band consisted of vocalist Meredith Graves, guitarist Ray McAndrew, drummer Garrett Koloski, bass guitarist Greg Ambler and keyboardist Shaun Sutkus. The band was known for its "frenetic brand of punk and raucous live shows" and has been described as "the most important punk band to come out of Syracuse since Earth Crisis." History Prior to the formation of the band, the lead singer Meredith Graves performed folk music under the name Mouse and the Love & Light Orkestra, then subsequently was a member of the Syracuse-based noise rock trio Shoppers. Founding After Shoppers broke up, film director Scott Coffey approached Graves, asking her to perform with a band for his 2012 movie, ''Adult World.'' Treefort Music Fest
The Treefort Music Fest is a five-day, indie rock festival which is held at numerous venues throughout downtown Boise, Idaho in late March. The inaugural 2012 festival took place March 20–23 with the featured acts Built to Spill, The Joy Formidable, and Poliça. Treefort has been called "the west’s best SXSW alternative" and "Boise's preeminent artistic, cultural and musical happening" which has "morphed from quirky music festival to consuming community event." ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Joanna Gruesome
Joanna Gruesome were a five-piece noise pop band from Cardiff, Wales. The name of the group is a reference to musician Joanna Newsom. They released two albums and a number of singles. History Joanna Gruesome were formed in 2010 in Cardiff. Their debut album received praise from ''Pitchfork'', '' This is fake DIY'', and ''Rough Trade''. Joanna Gruesome were known for their energetic live shows, as well as their forthright feminist and anti-homophobic views. ''Say Yes to Love'' is the only studio album by American punk rock band Perfect Pussy, released on March 18, 2014, through Captured Tracks. Composition ''Say Yes to Love'' digs into "febrile" noise punk / "ferocious", "peppy and articulate" noise rock, along with "agile" DIY garage punk. It sees the band "revel in their hardcore fury", yielding a "relentlessly noisy" take on the genre. It also works in "visceral, jarring" and "brutal" punk rock. Empath (band)
Empath is an American noise punk band from Philadelphia. The current lineup is Catherine Elicson (guitar/vocals), Jem Shanahan (synthesiser), Randall Coon (synthesiser), and Garrett Koloski (drums). They have released one album and several EPs, and are currently signed to Fat Possum Records. History Empath was formed by Catherine Elicson, Jem Shanahan and Garrett Koloski in 2015 whilst the three were roommates in Philadelphia. Elicson had recently moved from Columbus, Ohio, where she had been in the bands Goners and Katherine. Koloski was then the drummer in Syracuse, New York band Perfect Pussy. The trio recorded ''Crystal Reality Volumes 1 & 2''. They began recording what would become ''Liberating Guilt and Fear'' in 2016 with Koloski’s former bandmate, Shaun Sutkus. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Hüsker Dü () was an American punk rock band formed in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1979. The band's continual members were guitarist/vocalist Bob Mould, bassist/vocalist Greg Norton, and drummer/vocalist Grant Hart. They first gained notability as a hardcore punk band, and later crossed over into alternative rock. Mould and Hart were the band's principal songwriters, with Hart's higher-pitched vocals and Mould's baritone taking the lead in alternating songs.
