Arthur Perdue
Arthur W. Perdue (1885–1977) was an American businessman and the founder of Perdue Farms along with his wife Pearl in 1920. The business was started in his backyard, and at the time only produced table eggs from chickens, but eventually grew into a $4.1 billion company. Family and background In the 1600s, Henri Perdue, a Huguenot, left France for the Province of Maryland to escape religious persecution. Perdue settled in what is now Wicomico County, Maryland, Wicomico and Worcester County, Maryland, Worcester Counties and his descendants continue to live in the area. Perdue was born in 1885 as the second of three children to Levin and Martha Perdue in Worcester County. His parents were devout and strict Methodists. Lauren Perdue (born June 25, 1991) is an American competitive swimming (sport), swimmer who specializes in freestyle swimming, freestyle events. She was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and earned a gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. team in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Perdue was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, and attended J. H. Rose High School in Greenville, North Carolina. She swam for the Greenville Swim Club under head coach Casey Charles from 1999 to 2009. At the 2009 USA Swimming Long Course Junior National Championships, Perdue won her first championship in the 200-meter freestyle (1:59.09). Sally Perdue (also known as Sally Miller and Myra Belle Miller) is a former 1958 Miss Arkansas and Little Rock radio talk show host. She was a top-10 finalist in the 1958 Miss America pageant. Miller is a 1960 graduate of Lindenwood College. Fulfilling a childhood dream, Perdue traveled the length of the Great Wall of China on foot in 1990. Lewis Perdue (born May 1, 1949) is the author of 20 published books including ''Daughter of God,'' and ''The Da Vinci Legacy''. Perdue was sued by Random House in 2003 when he charged that Dan Brown's ''The Da Vinci Code'' plagiarized those two books. Random House won the lawsuit but lost their demand to have Perdue pay their legal fees. Life Perdue was born in the Mississippi Delta in 1949. He was expelled from the University of Mississippi in 1967 for leading a civil rights march. He graduated from Corning Community College in 1970 with an associate degree; in 2009, he was presented with the college's Distinguished Alumni Award. He is a third generation leader of the company founded by his grandfather in 1920. Like his father, Frank, Jim Perdue grew up in the family business, but didn't decide to make it his business right away. Herbert Rodney "Hub" Perdue (June 7, 1882 – October 31, 1968), also known as "the Gallatin Squash", was an American professional baseball player who played pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1911 to 1915. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Braves. He later managed the Nashville Volunteers in the Southern Association in 1921. Professional career Perdue played his first professional season in 1906 with the minor league Vincennes Alices of the Class D Kentucky–Illinois–Tennessee League.
