Percy Miller (pitcher)
Percy Miller (January 28, 1897 – January 14, 1958), nicknamed "Dimps", was an American Negro league pitcher and manager in the 1920s and 1930s. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Miller made his Negro leagues debut in 1921 with the Chicago Giants. He went on to enjoy a long career with several teams, and finished his career as player-manager of the Detroit Stars in 1937. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the Baseball (ball), baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of out (baseball), retiring a batter (baseball), batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitch (baseball), pitched ball or draw a base on balls, walk. The Detroit Stars were an American baseball team in the Negro leagues and played at historic Mack Park. The Stars had winning seasons every year but two, but were never able to secure any championships. Among their best players was Baseball Hall of Famer Turkey Stearnes.
