Per Haugsrud
Per Haugsrud (born 20 February 1965) is a Norwegian professional golfer and the first Norwegian to play on the European Tour. Amateur career Haugsrud began to play golf at the nine hole course in Sarpsborg when he was only seven years old. He was a scratch player at age 15. He won two Norwegian Amateur titles and represented Norway in the 1984 Eisenhower Trophy, the World Amateur Golf Team Championships. Professional career Haugsrud tried for European Tour card six times and succeeded on three occasions, starting with the 1991 European Tour season, playing a total of 157 European Tour tournaments 1987–2001 collecting €416,939 in winnings. He was runner-up at the 1990 Ramlösa Open and also played 27 Challenge Tour tournaments 1991–1995 where he won the 1993 SM Matchplay and 1994 SIAB Open. Sarpsborg
Sarpsborg ( or ), historically Borg, is a city and municipality in Viken county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Sarpsborg. Sarpsborg is part of the fifth largest urban area in Norway when paired with neighbouring Fredrikstad. As of 1 January 2018, according to Statistics Norway these two municipalities have a total population of 136,127 with 55,840 in Sarpsborg and 81,278 in Fredrikstad. 1989 World Cup (men's Golf)
The 1989 World Cup took place 16–19 November at Las Brisas Golf Club in Marbella, Spain. It was the 35th World Cup event. The tournament was shortened, due to rain, from 72 to 36 holes. Both the second round on Friday and the fourth round on Sunday were cancelled and only the Thursday and Saturday rounds were counted in the competition. The World Cup, previously named the Canada Cup, had been shortened before, due to bad weather; 1963, 1972 and 1984, but it was the first time since the event was instituted in 1953, that two full rounds were lost. It was a stroke play team event with 32 teams. Each team consisted of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. 1994 Challenge Tour
The 1994 Challenge Tour was the sixth season of the Challenge Tour, the official development tour to the European Tour. The tour started as the Satellite Tour with its first Order of Merit rankings in 1989 and was officially renamed as the Challenge Tour at the start of the 1990 season. SM Match Play
The Swedish Match Play Championship is a golf tournament played since 1904, held for both men and women. It is the oldest and most traditional golf tournament in Sweden. The name SM is shortening in Swedish language for "Svenska Mästerskapet" (the Swedish Championship). History From the first tournament in 1904 (for men) and 1911 (for women) until 1983, it was an amateur tournament, from 1910 open only for Swedish citizens, and the winner was the official Swedish champion. Henrik Bjørnstad
Henrik Bjørnstad (born 7 May 1979) is a Norwegian professional golfer. Bjørnstad was born in Oslo, Norway. He turned professional in 1997. Bjørnstad became the first Norwegian on the PGA Tour when he qualified with a tied 13th-place finish at the 2005 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. He previously played on the European Tour in 1999 and from 2001 to 2004. The first season on the PGA Tour resulted in 1 top 10 finish and 17 cuts made in 31 starts. Resulting in ranking at 152nd place on the PGA Tour Money list. In 2007 to 2009 Bjørnstad played on the U.S.-based Nationwide Tour. In 2009, Bjørnstad secured his playing rights on the PGA Tour for the second time by finishing within the top 25 on the money list. His final position was 18th. However, having again finished outside the top-150 on the PGA Tour money list, he was reported at the end of 2010 as saying he was quitting professional golf. The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. Later the venue rotated between a select group of coastal links golf courses in the United Kingdom. It is organised by the R&A. The Open is one of the four men's major golf tournaments, the others being the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. Official World Golf Rankings
The Official World Golf Ranking is a system for rating the performance level of professional golfers. It was started in 1986. The rankings are based on a player's position in individual tournaments (i.e. not pairs or team events) over a "rolling" two-year period. New rankings are calculated each week. During 2018, nearly 400 tournaments on 20 tours were covered by the ranking system. All players competing in these tournaments are included in the rankings. In 2022, 23 tours factored into the world rankings. As well as being of general interest, the rankings have an additional importance, in that they are used as one of the qualifying criteria for entry into a number of leading tournaments. 2001 WGC-World Cup
The 2001 WGC-World Cup took place 15–18 November at the Taiheiyo Club, Gotemba Course in Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It was the 47th World Cup and the second as a World Golf Championship event. 24 countries competed and each country sent two players. The prize money totaled $3,000,000 with $1,000,000 going to the winning pair. The South African team of Ernie Els and Retief Goosen won in a sudden-death playoff over teams from Denmark, New Zealand and the United States. Qualification and format 18 teams qualified based on the Official World Golf Ranking and were six teams via qualifiers.
