Juha Pentikäinen
Juha Pentikäinen (born 26 February 1940) is a professor emeritus of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Helsinki and a professor of northern ethnography at the University of Lapland and the Institute for Northern Culture in Helsinki. With a field-work oriented approach to the study of religious traditions he is especially interested in the oral history of languages, religions and cultures. Research He has research interests in religious traditions in the Finnish culture, and their psychological effects on humans. Along with many guest professorships, he has appeared to speak at over 100 Universities in numerous different countries. Based upon his work, other professors (i.e. Veikko Anttonen and Nils G. Holm) in his field have analyzed his approach towards the studies of religion. Eeva Anneli ("Anu") Pentikäinen ( Pasi; born 3 August 1942), better known professionally as Anu Pentik, is a Finnish designer and ceramicist. Early life and education Pentik's mother died when she was only six, after which she had to assume responsibility for running the household. She trained as a home economist (), and later as arts & crafts instructor. Pentik is largely self-taught; pottery-making and leather craft started as her hobbies, before she decided to try her hand at them professionally. Career Pentik set up her eponymous ceramics and interior design business in Posio, Lapland, in 1971, together with her husband Topi Pentikäinen. The first products were sold at the village petrol station. The first retail store in Helsinki opened five years later, and over the next forty years the business grew to comprise 80 stores in Finland and other Nordic countries, making it one of Finland's leading design businesses. In Finland, a person must have a surname and at least one given name with up to four given names permitted. Surnames are inherited either patrilineally or matrilineally, while given names are usually chosen by a person's parents. Finnish names come from a variety of dissimilar traditions that were consolidated only in the early 20th century.
