Penny The Dreadful
''Penny the Dreadful'' is the debut studio album from the American rock band Those Mockingbirds. Content The ten-track album was self-released on compact disc and digital download, on July 1, 2014. The band moved to New Hampshire for a month for recording, which was made by Dean Baltulonis at the Wild Arctic in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with the exception of "Loose Leather," which was recorded at Treehouse in Jersey City, New Jersey, and "I Feel Like I Died" at Sleeping In Sanity Studios. It was mixed by Howard Willing at The Bear's Lair in Los Angeles, California, and mastered by Robert Vosgien at Capitol Mastering in Los Angeles. Those Mockingbirds were an American alternative rock band from New Jersey. History Those Mockingbirds were a three-piece alternative rock band from Montclair, New Jersey that formed in 2009. They were described as "combin ngelements of prog, alt, hard, and classic rock into a loud, but accessible mix," and list the Smashing Pumpkins, Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin as musical inspirations. Those Mockingbirds began by playing shows across the Northeast of the United States, and promoting the band at places like shopping malls and parking lots. In April 2010, they released their first studio recording ''No Symmetry'', which features heavy keyboard effects and "sugary vocals," on their own label, L.E. Grunge Rock
Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle sound) is an alternative rock genre and subculture that emerged during the in the American Pacific Northwest state of Washington, particularly in Seattle and nearby towns. Grunge fuses elements of punk rock and heavy metal, but without punk's structure and speed. The genre featured the distorted electric guitar sound used in both genres, although some bands performed with more emphasis on one or the other. Like these genres, grunge typically uses electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals. Grunge also incorporates influences from indie rock bands such as Sonic Youth. Lyrics are typically angst-filled and introspective, often addressing themes such as social alienation, self-doubt, abuse, neglect, betrayal, social and emotional isolation, addiction, psychological trauma and a desire for freedom. Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. ''Fa Sol La'' is the third studio EP from the American rock band Those Mockingbirds. Content The six-track EP was released on vinyl and as a free digital download, on 13 September 2011. The limited edition vinyl issue, which was pressed by United Record Pressing in Nashville, Tennessee, includes a full-color, double sided, hand-numbered insert, an signed band poster, a handmade keychain by Tory Daines, a sticker, and a digital download card for an alternate unreleased version of the song "Coast to Coast." ''Fa Sol La'' contains two instrumental tracks, and draws comparison to the music of Smashing Pumpkins, and Arcade Fire. The song "The Difference Between Love and Addiction" was almost included on the EP, but instead was released as a stand-alone single, on April 24, 2012.
