Penny Peppas
Penni Ann Peppas (born July 2, 1972) is an American former professional basketball player. She was the first foreign born professional player in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild kvenna, where she won multiple national championships and scoring titles. College Peppas played for University of the Ozarks from 1990 to 1994 and left as the schools allt time leader in total points (2170). Iceland After graduating in 1994, Peppas signed with Breiðablik in Iceland, becoming the first foreign born professional player in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild kvenna. She was a three time scoring champion in the Úrvalsdeild and led the league in assists in 1997. Peppas won the Icelandic championship twice, in 1995 with Breiðablik, while also being named as Playoffs MVP, and in 1997 with Grindavík. On October 15, 1996, Peppas had a Quadruple-double against ÍR. For the game she had 52 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. Above all, the point guard must understand and accept their coach's game plan; in this way, the position can be compared to a quarterback in American football. NAIA Women's Basketball Championships
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women's Basketball national championship has been held annually since 1981. The NAIA Women's Tournament was established one year before the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament. It was created to crown a women's national title for smaller colleges and universities. From 1992 to 2020, the NAIA sponsored a women's division II championship tournament. The entire tournament is played in Sioux City, Iowa. Prior to the merger of D-I and D-II, a separate Division I tournament was held in Billings, Montana, while the Division II tournament was in Sioux City. Contracts for host cities for both divisions initially expired in 2017. Following renewals, the 2018 and 2019 tournaments were held in the same cities, but in 2020, the tournaments were called off due to the COVID-19 outbreak. ÍR Women's Basketball
The Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur women's basketball team, commonly known as ÍR, is the women's basketball department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland. History ÍR women's team was founded in 1950 and was one of the pioneers of women's basketball in Iceland as one of the founding members of the women's Icelandic women's championship tournament. It is also one of the most successful women's team in the country, winning a total of 11 national championships. After not fielding a team since being relegated from the Úrvalsdeild in 2004, the team was revived in 2017 and registered into Division I for the 2017-2018 season. On June 16, 2017, the club hired former player Ólafur Jónas Sigurðsson as the head coach of the team. ''DV'' (''Dagblaðið Vísir'') is an online newspaper in Iceland published by Torg ehf. It came into existence as a daily newspaper in 1981 when two formerly independent newspapers, Vísir and Dagblaðið, merged. Early on it was one of the largest newspapers in Iceland and at one point had a 64% readership in Iceland.
