Pelayo Sánchez Mayo (born 27 March 2000) is a Spanish cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He turned professional in 2021 with , where he was named to their squad for the 2021 Vuelta a España. In 2024, he joined on a two-year contract, winning his first race with the team at the Trofeo Pollença–Port d'Andratx in late January. In May, he won stage six of the Giro d'Italia from a three-rider breakaway. 2024 Giro D'Italia
The 2024 Giro d'Italia was the 107th edition of the Giro d'Italia, a three-week Grand Tour cycling stage race. The race started on 4 May in Venaria Reale and finished on 26 May in Rome. There were two individual time trial stages and 4 stages longer than 200km. The general classification was won by Tadej Pogačar of , by a margin of 9 minutes 56 second over his closest competitor, Daniel Martínez. Pogačar also won the mountains classification and six stages, and together with Eddy Merckx (1973) is the rider who in the post-war period has won the general classification taking the greatest number of stages. Pogačar's winning margin was the biggest since the 1965 edition and the fourth largest in the post-World War II era. The 2023 Vuelta a España was a three-week men's cycling race taking place in Spain between 26 August and 17 September 2023. It was the 78th edition of the Vuelta a España and was won by Sepp Kuss. The 2024 Vuelta a España was a three-week cycling race that took place in Portugal and Spain between 17 August and 8 September. It was the 79th edition of the Vuelta a España and the third and final grand tour of the 2024 men's road cycling season. The race departed from Lisbon and finished in Madrid. The race was won by Primož Roglič of team for a record-tying 4th time. The general classification in the Giro d'Italia is the most important classification of the Giro d'Italia, which determines who is the overall winner. It is therefore considered more important than secondary classifications as the points classification or the mountains classification. Since 1931, the leader of the general classification has been identified by a pink jersey ( ). Prior to that year and since the creation of the race, no colour was used to distinguish the winner at the top of the classification. The first rider to wear the maglia rosa was Learco Guerra following the first stage of the 1931 Giro d'Italia. The first jersey was entirely pink and made from wool.
