PEKA
PEKA, the Political Committee of the Cypriot Struggle (), was the political wing of the EOKA movement which fought against the British the independence of Cyprus and later union with Greece between 1955 and 1959. It was founded in the summer of 1956 with the specific aims to: 1. Co-ordinate the political and military struggle. 2. Raise the morale of the Greek-Cypriot people. 3. Enlighten world public opinion as to the struggle, its origin and its aims. 4. Keep Greek-Cypriots united in their demand for Enosis. PEKA published numerous leaflets with the goal of 'public enlightenment' and morale boosting, written by and for Greek Cypriots, and encouraged resistance against the British colonial forces led by Field Marshal Harding. Harding censored the local press and censored and fined the leaflet distributors before resigning as Governor of Cyprus in later 1957. Te Peka
Te Peka is a locality in the Southland region of New Zealand's South Island. It is situated on the western edge of the Catlins region, with Waimahaka to the west, Fortrose to the southwest, and Pukewao and Tokanui to the southeast. Railway On 20 December 1911, an extension of the Seaward Bush Branch from Waimahaka through Te Peka to Tokanui was opened. This branch line railway linked Te Peka with Invercargill, with passengers carried on mixed trains. In the mid-1920s, Te Peka railway station became a junction when a bush tramway was built eastwards from it to Fortification to serve a sawmill. Peka Peka, sometimes spelled Pekapeka, is a seaside locality on the Kāpiti Coast of New Zealand's North Island. It is located just off State Highway 1 and the North Island Main Trunk railway between Waikanae and Te Horo. Peka Peka was briefly internationally famous when a young emperor penguin, nicknamed Happy Feet, appeared on Peka Peka beach on 21 June 2011. Emperor penguins are usually only found in the Antarctic. It had been 44 years since the species was last spotted in the wild in New Zealand. Peka Peka Beach is a clothing-optional beach by custom. Jan Peka
Jan Peka (27 July 1894 – 21 January 1985) was a Czech ice hockey player, representing Czechoslovakia. He competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics, the 1928 Winter Olympics, and at the 1936 Winter Olympics. Born in Rataje nad Sázavou, Austria-Hungary, Peka fought in the First World War and was captured, becoming a prisoner of war in Greece. He did not return home until 1919. He was also a member of the Czechoslovakia national team which won the bronze medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics, where ice hockey was first played. The original goaltender for the team, Karel Wälzer, broke his thumb before the start of the tournament, and was unable to play the first two games. Peka was brought in to play against Canada and the United States, losing each game by a score of 15–0 and 16–0, respectively. Lucia Peka
Lucia Peka (, March 30, 1912 – August 13, 1991) was a Latvian-American artist. Born in the Governorate of Livonia of the Russian Empire, she became part of the diaspora of artists who fled Latvia during World War II, and eventually settled in the United States where she was a successful painter of landscapes, figures, and still life for almost 50 years. A touring gallery collection travelled within the US Midwest and Washington, D.C.(2010–2011) exhibiting a collection of Peka oil paintings along with other Latvian Displaced Persons of the mid 20th century.
