Peeter Saan
Lieutenant-Colonel Peeter Saan (born 16 April 1959) is an Estonian conductor and reserve officer of the Estonian Defence Forces. He is also a clarinet and saxophone player, as well as an arranger. Biography Peeter Saan was born in Võru on 16 April 1959. He started studying music at the Võru Children's Music School, majoring in accordion, later clarinet and saxophone. He graduated from the clarinet-saxophone class of the Georg Ots Tallinn Music College in 1983. and in the clarinet class of the Tallinn Conservatoire in 1988. In 2002, he graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with a master's degree in wind orchestra conducting. He has researched Estonian military and ceremonial music, and in 2006 he defended his PhD thesis was entitled as "Estonian state music and military orchestras: formation and development in 1918−1940". Martin Herem
Martin Herem (born 17 December 1973) is an Estonian lieutenant general and the current Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces since 2018. Herem entered into service in 1992. From 2013 to 2016 he served as the Commandant of the Estonian National Defence College and from 2016 to 2018 Chief of Staff of the Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces. Herem was one of the re-founding members of the paramilitary Estonian Defence League in 1990. On 18 February 2021, Martin Herem was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general. The Order of the Cross of the Eagle ( et, Kotkaristi teenetemärk; french: Ordre de la Croix de l'Aigle) was instituted in 1928 by the Estonian Defence League to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Estonian independence. It was adopted as a state order in 1936. The Order of the Cross of the Eagle is bestowed to give recognition for military services and services in the field of national defence. Lieutenant colonel ( , ) is a rank of commissioned officers in the armies, most marine forces and some air forces of the world, above a major and below a colonel. Band Of The Estonian Defence Forces
The Kaitseväe orkester, known in Anglophone countries as the Band of the Estonian Defence Forces, is the official military band service of the Estonian Defence Forces. The main task of the band is to play music at all national and military ceremonies. The band's repertoire includes mostly classical and marching music. It is currently made up of 40 musicians. From 1996 to 2019, the conductor of the band was Lieutenant Colonel Peeter Saan. Each year, the band takes part in about 220 concerts, festivals, and ceremonial parades of the Defence Forces (such as the annual independence day parade in Tallinn). It has also performed at venues abroad in countries like Lithuania, France and Germany. Traditionally, the band holds Autumn and Spring concerts in the Estonia Concert Hall.
