Peekaboo
Peekaboo (also spelled peek-a-boo) is a form of play played with an infant. To play, one player hides their face, pops back into the view of the other, and says ''Peekaboo!'', sometimes followed by ''I see you!'' There are many variations: for example, where trees are involved, "Hiding behind that tree!" is sometimes added. Another variation involves saying "Where's the baby?" while the face is covered and "There's the baby!" when uncovering the face. Peekaboo uses a joke-like structure: surprise, balanced with expectation. Linguist Iris Nomikou has compared the game to a dialogue given the predictable back-and-forth pattern. Other researchers have called the game “protoconversation" – a way to teach an infant the timing and the structure of social exchanges. Object permanence Peekaboo is thought by developmental psychology, developmental psychologists to demonstrate an infant's inability to understand object permanence. Object permanence is an important stage of Infant ...

The New Vaudeville Band
The New Vaudeville Band was an English group created by songwriter Geoff Stephens in 1966 to record his novelty composition "Winchester Cathedral", a song inspired by the dance bands of the 1920s and a Rudy Vallée megaphone-style vocal. To his surprise, the song became a transatlantic hit that autumn, reaching the Top 10 in the United Kingdom and rising to No. 1 in the United States. The New Vaudeville Band initially was a studio group composed of session players, but Stephens quickly assembled a permanent group to continue recording and to play live shows. The group has been periodically revived since, without Stephens' participation. The New Vaudeville Band placed several singles in the US and UK Top 40 through 1967. The group was nominated for two Grammy Awards, one for Record of the Year and they won in the Contemporary (R&R) Recording category for the 9th Annual Grammy Awards. History Foundation (1966) The original version of the New Vaudeville Band was an assemblage o ...

Rose Is Rose
''Rose Is Rose'' is a syndicated comic strip, written by Pat Brady since its launch on April 16, 1984, and drawn since March 2004 by Don Wimmer. The strip revolves around Rose and Jimbo Gumbo, their son Pasquale, and the family cat Peekaboo. Rose and Jimbo are deeply in love with each other, sometimes exchanging love notes or kissing under the stars, and they dote fondly on Pasquale. ''Rose Is Rose'' is unusual, especially in modern comic strips, in that it has a generally positive and cheerful outlook on life and deals heavily with the emotional states of its characters, especially Rose and Pasquale. Rose and sometimes Jimbo are drawn as little children to emphasize " inner child" experiences. Rose is sometimes shown leaning against her "let it be" tree when dealing with heavy burdens. The strip also features highly daring "camera angles" and perspectives, often giving the illusion through frames of real motion. The strip often shows an alternate point of view based on the ...

Peek-a-boo (boxing Style)
Peek-a-boo is a boxing style which received its common name for the defensive hand position, which are normally placed in front of the face, like in the baby's game of the same name. The technique is thought to offer extra protection to the face while making it easier to jab the opponent's face. The fighter holds their gloves close to their cheeks and pulls their arms tight against their torso. A major proponent of the style was trainer Cus D'Amato, who did not use the term peek-a-boo and instead referred to it as a "tight defense." The style was criticized by some because it was believed that an efficient attack could not be launched from it. Concept Peek-a-boo's key principles are built upon the "Bad intentions" concept , which emphasize the D'Amato philosophy. The general idea is that the Peek-a-boo practitioners are counterpunchers, who contrary to accustomed ways of counterpunching perceived as constantly backing-up and jabbing from the safe distance, move forward and do it ...

Peekaboo Galaxy
The Peekaboo Galaxy (officially known as HIPASS J1131-31 and PGC 5060432) is an irregular blue compact dwarf galaxy in the constellation Hydra. The galaxy is relatively small, at about across. It is also relatively nearby, at a distance of around from Earth. The Peekaboo Galaxy is considered one of the most metal-poor ( "extremely metal-poor" (XMP)), least chemically enriched, and seemingly primordial, galaxies known. Discovery History of observation The Peekaboo Galaxy was hidden behind a relatively fast-moving foreground star, named TYC 7215-199-1, but during the second half of the 20th century, the star moved aside, clearing the view to the obscured galaxy, which gave the galaxy its name. Detailed studies of the galaxy were reported in November 2022, and were based on work using the Hubble Space Telescope. The astronomers were able to closely examine about 60 of the individual stars in the galaxy, all appearing relatively young, a few billion years old or younger. In ...
