Pedro Larrañaga (actor)
Pedro Larrañaga y Ruiz-Gómez (27 April 1887 – 23 November 1944) was a Spanish actor in the 1920s and 1930s. Early and personal life Pedro Larrañaga was born on 27 April 1887 in Avilés, as the son of Carlos Larrañaga y Onzalo, a native of Motrico and the first president of the Avilés Chamber of Commerce, who had settled in Avilés in 1880. He married María Ladrón de Guevara, with whom he had at least one son, Carlos. Career Larrañaga left his homeland of Asturias to pursue a career in acting, making his debut in 1926 under Florián Rey at ''El Pilluelo de Madrid'' together with Elisa Ruiz Romero. He then performed ''El conde Maravillas'' (1926) and ''Rosa de Madrid'' (1927), doing so together with Conchita Dorado and Carmen Toledo. In 1928, he performed again for Florián Rey in ''Águilas de Acero'' together with Elita Panquer, and then played the protagonist of ''Zalacaín el Aventurero de Pío Baroja'', directed by Francisco Camacho. Avilés (Asturian and ;) is a town in Asturias, Spain. Avilés is, along with Oviedo and Gijón, one of the main cities in the Principality of Asturias. Carlos Larrañaga Ladrón de Guevara (11 March 1937 – 30 August 2012) was a Spanish actor. Biography Personal life Larrañaga was born in Barcelona to actress María Fernanda Ladrón de Guevara, and was the half-brother of actress Amparo Rivelles. He was the father of Amparo Larrañaga, Pedro Larrañaga and Luis Merlo, all actors, and the father-in-law of actress Maribel Verdú. Career His film debut was in 1941, at age four, in '' Alma de Dios'', directed by Ignacio F. Iquino. His first success was in 1950 with '' Pequeñeces'', directed by Juan de Orduña. He had a major supporting role in ''The Pride and the Passion'' with Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren and then starred in '' Ha llegado un ángel'' and '' El extraño viaje'', among other films. Antonio Martínez del Castillo known professionally as Florián Rey was a Spanish director, actor, and screenwriter. He directed '' The Cursed Village'', widely recognized as a seminal work in silent Spanish cinema, and helped launch the career of famed Argentinian–Spanish actress Imperio Argentina. Early career While in his teens, Rey began work as a journalist for multiple newspapers in his home province of Zaragoza and nearby Madrid.
