Pedro Campos
Pedro Henrique de Andrade Lima Carneiro Campos (born 28 October 1995) is a Brazilian civil engineer and politician, affiliated with the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB). He was elected as a federal deputy from the state of Pernambuco in 2022. He is the son of former government minister and governor of Pernambuco Eduardo Campos. Biography Pedro Henrique is the third child of Eduardo Campos and Renata de Andrade Lima, with Renata having established a career as an economist and state auditor. His older brother, João Henrique Campos, is the current mayor of Recife. He comes from a politically prominent family in Pernambuco, with his grandmother being former federal deputy and minister of the Tribunal de Contas da União (TCU) Ana Arraes, and his great-grandfather being former governor of Pernambuco Miguel Arraes. The Chamber of Deputies () is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current president of the chamber is the Deputy Hugo Motta ( Republicanos- PB), who was elected on 1 February 2025. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. Maximiano Accioly Campos (19 November 1941 – 7 August 1998) was a Brazilian poet, writer, and journalist who was a member of the Generation 65 Movement. He was the father of former governor of Pernambuco and government minister Eduardo Campos. Biography Campos was born on 19 November 1941 in Recife. After he graduated with a law degree from the Catholic University of Pernambuco, he was a columnist with ''Diario de Pernambuco'' and was a superintendent at the Institute of Documentation at the Fundação Joaquim Nabuco. From January 1987 to December 1988, he was the State Secretary of Tourism, Culture, and Sports of Pernambuco during the governorship of his father-in-law Miguel Arraes. 2014 Santos Cessna Citation Crash
On 13 August 2014, a Cessna Citation Excel business jet crashed while trying to land at Santos Air Force Base, near Santos, Brazil, killing all seven people on board. Among the victims was Brazilian Socialist Party presidential candidate Eduardo Campos. Eleven people on the ground were also injured. The accident investigation concluded that spatial disorientation in poor weather and pilot fatigue likely caused a low altitude loss of control of the aircraft, leading to the impact with the ground.
