Payra Port Authority
Payra Port Authority is an autonomous port authority in charge of the third port in Port of Payra, Bangladesh, and is located in Patuakhali, Bangladesh. The current chairman of the Payra Port Authority is Rear Admiral Masud Iqbal. History The port authority and the port were established on 19 November 2013 through the Payra Sea Port Act 2013. The port started commercial operations from August 2016 under the port authority. In 2016 China Harbour Engineering Company and China State Construction Engineering signed an agreement with the authority to improve the port. The deals were worth more than US$500 million and were signed in the Ministry of Shipping in Dhaka. The same year the port authority signed an agreement with Bangladesh Navy to build the approach road to the port. Patuakhali
Patuakhali ( ''Potuakhali'') is a town and district headquarters of Patuakhali District located on the southern bank of Laukathi river in Barisal Division in Bangladesh. It is the administrative headquarter of Patuakhali district and one of the oldest towns and municipalities in the country. Patuakhali municipality was established in 1892. The town covers an area of 27.03 km2 with a population of 65,000, according to the 2011 census. Title There are different opinions about the origin of the name "Patuakhali". The general belief is that the name is derived from Bengali name "Patuar Khal" (Canal of Patua) which flows down the present Patuakhali municipality connecting the Bay of Bengal. Kalapara Upazila
Kalapara Upazila (, also known as Khepupara () is an upazila of Patuakhali District in the Division of Barisal, Bangladesh. History The Rakhine tribe of Bangladesh first settled in this upazila. A section of the people belonging to the Buddhist Rakhine tribe of Arakan came to this upazila in quest of better living and first settled at Khepupara and Kuakata. Tradition goes that the Rakhines on excavating wells traced fresh water in the area and thereby settled there. The Rakhine word 'kansai' means 'beach of fate'. The place was named as Kansai after this. The place was subsequently renamed as Kuakata (digging of well) after the wells dug out by the Rakhines. Port Of Payra
The Port of Payra is a seaport located at Kalapara in Patuakhali, Bangladesh. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 2013. The port was officially inaugurated in 2016. It is located on the Ramnabad Channel near the Bay of Bengal. The port is undergoing several Development and expansion and the project is expected to be completed in 2020.
