Pawtucketville
Pawtucketville is a neighborhood and village within the city of Lowell, Massachusetts. The area was settled in the 1668 as Drawcott and was previously inhabited by the Pennacook tribe, and eventually " e settlement that developed on the north side of the river was first called Pawtucket Village. The name Pawtucketville can be traced to the construction of the Merrimack-Middlesex Bridge at Pawtucket Falls in 1792, the first bridge that spanned the Merrimack River. On the north side of the bridge, a small village began to develop. This community was originally known as the Village at Pawtucket Falls or Pawtucket Village, and by the time of annexation in 1874, as Pawtucketville." Lowell () is a city in Massachusetts, in the United States. Alongside Cambridge, Massachusetts, Cambridge, It is one of two traditional county seat, seats of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, Middlesex County. Harry Lew
Harry Haskell Lew (January 4, 1884 – October 1963) was an American basketball player, who is known as the first black Professional basketball player. Biography Harry "Bucky" Lew was born in Pawtucketville section of Dracut, Massachusetts (now Pawtucketville section Lowell, Massachusetts annexed in 1874 the son of William and Isabell (Brown) Lew. Like generations of Lews, Bucky Lew was a talented musician and played a violin solo at his graduation from Pawtucketville Grammar School. In the late 1890s, he entered his father's dry cleaning business in downtown Lowell. He had three daughters: Eleanor, Phyllis, and Frances. Family history A member of an African-American family with a long history in Massachusetts, his great-great-grandfather, Barzillai Lew, was a freeman who served in the American Revolution. Barzillai Lew
Barzillai Lew (November 5, 1743 January 18, 1822) was an African-American soldier who served with distinction during the American Revolutionary War. Family history Barzillai Lew's story began with Primus Lew of Groton, Massachusetts (a former servant of Captain Matthew Bonner), and Margret Lew (a former servant of Samuel Scripture). As free blacks, Primus and Margret Lew married in 1742 and they had two sons and two daughters. Primus served as a musician in the French and Indian War in 1747. In 1752, Primus married again to Rose Canterbury and bought a farm on the west side of the Nashua River in the Pepperell section of Groton, Massachusetts and they had two children. Primus and Margret Lew's oldest son Barzillai (pronounced BAR-zeal-ya) often called "Zeal" or "Zelah," was born a free black in Groton, Massachusetts November 5, 1743. Lowell General Hospital
Founded in 1891, Lowell General Hospital is an independent, not-for-profit community hospital serving the Greater Lowell area and surrounding communities. With two primary campuses located in Lowell, Massachusetts, Lowell General Hospital offers a full range of medical and surgical services for patients. Lowell General Hospital is a member of the Voluntary Hospitals of America. Lowell General is affiliated with Tufts Children's Hospital in Boston. History The Lowell Free Hospital Association was founded in May 1891. James Fellows funded the purchase of the Fay mansion in the Pawtucketville neighborhood with a $30,000 donation, and in July 1893, Lowell General Hospital opened. John Fawcett (entrepreneur)
John Henry "Fawce" Fawcett Jr. (born 1977) is an American entrepreneur who co-founded Tamale Software and Quantopian. He was the CEO of the latter. Early life and education Fawcett was born in 1977 to Ann Fawcett (née Fuller), a nurse, and John H. Fawcett, Sr., a carpenter, business owner, and math teacher. He grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts, in the Pawtucketville neighborhood, with his parents and elder brother, Todd Fawcett. Fawcett and his brother worked at the family business, John H.
