Paweł Blehm
Paweł Blehm (born 17 April 1980 in Olkusz) is a Polish chess grandmaster (2001). He took part in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2000, but was knocked out in the first round by Smbat Lputian. He played for Poland in the Chess Olympiad of 2000. In 2002 he won the Bermuda Open tournament. Olkusz
Olkusz ( ''Elkish'') is a town in southern Poland with 36,607 inhabitants (2014). Situated in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship (since 1999), previously in Katowice Voivodeship (1975–1998), it is the capital of Olkusz County. Olkusz is known for its abundance of silver, which is silver mining, mined and extracted in the vicinity. Grandmaster (GM) is a Chess title, title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Chess Championship, World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally the title can be revoked for Cheating in chess, cheating. FIDE World Chess Championship 2000
The FIDE World Chess Championship 2000 was held in New Delhi, India, and Tehran, Iran. The first six rounds were played in New Delhi between 27 November and 15 December 2000, and the final match in Tehran started on 20 December and ended on 24 December 2000. The top seeded Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand won the championship. Background At the time of this championship, the World title was split. Smbat Gariginovich Lputian (also Transliteration, transliterated as ''Lputyan''; ; born 14 February 1958) is an Armenian Grandmaster (chess), chess grandmaster. Chess career He was first at the tournament in Berlin in 1982, shared first place at Athens and at Irkutsk in 1983, first at Sarajevo in 1985 and at Irkutsk in 1986, shared first at Hastings International Chess Congress, Hastings in 1986–87, and first at Dortmund in 1988.
