Padigaru Venkataramana Acharya, also known by his pen name Langulacharya, was a Kannada and Tulu scribe, journalist, writer and poet who received the B.D. Goenka award for journalism in 1992. Biography Early life, education & family P.V. Acharya was born on 15 February 1915 in the town of Kunjibettu in Udupi district near Mangalore in Karnataka. He was born to Padigaru Laxminarayanacharya (father) and Seetamma (mother). He was the youngest of five children and their only son. Acharya was five years old when his father died. With some external financial help from extended family & well-wishers, he studied until high school. He passed matriculation (10th standard) with a 100 percent score in mathematics and 85 percent in English. Impressed with his results, his school's principal offered him to get admission into Mangalore's St. Aloysius College with a full scholarship. Kannada People
The Kannadigas or Kannadigaru (), often referred to as Kannada people, are a Dravidian ethno-linguistic group who natively speak Kannada, primarily in the south Indian state of Karnataka and its surrounding regions. The Kannada language belongs to the Dravidian family of languages. Kannada stands among 30 of the most widely spoken languages of the world as of 2001. After the Mauryas, parts of Karnataka were variously ruled by dynasties who were from the outside. One theory posits that the Vijayanagara Empire, one of the region's most renowned, was founded by Kannadigas who served as commanders in the Hoysala Empire's army stationed in the Tungabhadra region. Udupi District
Udupi district (also Udipi () in Kannada or Odipu () in Tulu language) is an administrative subdivision in the Karnataka state of India, with the district headquarters in the city of Udupi. It is situated in the Canara old north Malabar coastal region. There are seven taluks, 233 villages and 21 towns in Udupi district. The three northern tehsils of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala, were partitioned from Dakshina Kannada district (South Canara) to form Udupi district on 25 August 1997. Moodabidri was officially declared as new tehsil (taluk) in 2018. In February 2018, the district was split to into 3 more taluks, with Byndoor being carved out of Kundapur taluk and the Udupi taluk being split into three parts. Along with the initial Udupi taluk, Kapu, Brahmavar and Hebri were created.
