Paulo Muacho
Paulo Jorge Velez Muacho (born 14 July 1990) is a Portuguese lawyer, politician and member of the Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. A member of the LIVRE party, he has represented Setúbal since March 2024. Early life Muacho was born on 14 July 1990 in Campo Maior. He grew up in Seixal on the south bank of the Tagus. He has a degree in law. He also has a master's degree in law. Career Muacho is a practicing lawyer. Muacho joined LIVRE in 2014 shortly after its formation and has been a part of the Contact Group, the party's executive body, from 2015 to 2020 and since 2022. He was a member of Lisbon City Council from 2017 to 2021. He is currently working as coordinator for the LIVRE group on Lisbon City Council. At the 2015 legislative election Muacho was placed tenth on LIVRE's list of candidates in Setúbal but the party failed to win any seats in the constituency. Lisbon () is one of the 22 multi-member constituencies of the Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. The constituency was established in 1976 when the Assembly of the Republic was established by the constitution following the restoration of democracy. It is conterminous with the district of Lisbon. An ''Assembleia Municipal'' (; "municipal assembly"; plural: ''assembleias municipais'') is the legislature that governs a municipality in Portugal. Part of the assembly's members are elected every four years among candidate lists by the D'Hondt method, simultaneously with the election of the ''Câmara Municipal''; the remainder member are the presidents of the Junta de freguesia that compose the municipality, whose number cannot exceed the number of elected members. A municipal assembly generally meets five times a year, and its members are paid a presence fee for each meeting. It is a level higher than the Assembleia de freguesia. The ''Diário da República'' (DR) is the official gazette of Portugal. Between 1869 and 1976, it was called the ''Diário do Governo''. It is published by the National Printing House and comprises two series. Laws, decree-laws, decisions by the Constitutional Court and other relevant texts are published in the I Series. Regulations, public contracts, etc. are published in the II Series. As in many countries, legislative texts are only binding after publication (article 119 of the Portuguese Constitution). Since July 1, 2006, the gazette is published in electronic form, with only a handful of authenticated printed copies (for deposit in the National Archive, the Presidency, the Assembleia da República, the high courts, etc.). 2017 Lisbon Local Election
The 2017 Lisbon local election was held on 1 October 2017 to elect the members of the Lisbon City Council. Against a fractured opposition, Fernando Medina, mayor since the resignation of António Costa in 2015, was elected for a full term, defeating Assunção Cristas ( CDS-PP leader) and Teresa Leal Coelho ( PSD). Despite the victory, the Socialist Party lost its majority by one seat, having to rely of the Left Bloc's support. The Unitary Democratic Coalition presented former MEP João Ferreira again and achieved similar results, and that guaranteed two Communist councilors. The Left Bloc, with Ricardo Robles as the candidate for Mayor, managed to gain a councillor seat for the first time in 10 years.
