Paulo Machado (swimmer)
Paulo Maurício Silva Machado (born July 24, 1978 in Piracicaba, São Paulo) is a Brazilian swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. Macahdo is a former member of the Tennessee Volunteers and a graduate of liberal arts and sciences at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. Machado qualified for two swimming events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by attaining a FINA A-standard entry time of 56.19 (100 m backstroke) from the national championships in Rio de Janeiro. In the 100-metre backstroke, Machado challenged seven other swimmers on the third heat, including Olympic veterans Derya Büyükuncu of Turkey, Eduardo Germán Otero of Argentina, and Gordan Kozulj of Croatia. He edged out Otero to take the seventh spot by 0.21 of a second with a time of 57.07 seconds. Backstroke Swimming
Backstroke or back crawl is one of the four Swimming (sport), swimming styles used in competitive events regulated by FINA, and the only one of these styles swum on the back. This swimming style has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going. It also has a different start from the other three competition swimming styles. The swimming style is similar to an ''upside down'' front crawl or freestyle. Both backstroke and front crawl are long-axis strokes. In individual medley backstroke is the second style swum; in the medley relay it is the first style swum. History Backstroke is an ancient style of swimming, popularized by Harry Hebner. It was the second stroke to be swum in competitions after the front crawl. Eduardo Fischer
Eduardo Aquiles Fischer (born March 25, 1980, in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil) is an Olympic breaststroke swimmer from Brazil. He swam for Brazil at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics. Early years Eduardo began swimming at the age of seven, but only started competing at 11. The motivation came from his older brother, who has practiced the sport. His first club was the Joinville Tênis Clube, where he stayed for ten years. In 1999, he went to Minas Tênis Clube, where he went to defend the CR Vasco da Gama until 2002, when he returned to Joinville. The first major title came at the 1997 Brazilian Winter Championship, with the gold medal in the 100-metre breaststroke. International career Fischer participated in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, finishing 31st in the 100-metre breaststroke and 12th in the 4×100-metre medley.
