Paul Vogt (historian)
Paul Vogt (born 5 April 1952) is a historian and politician from Liechtenstein who served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein. His works primarily include the political history of Liechtenstein. Early life Vogt was born on 5 April 1952 in Balzers to the son of Anton Vogt and his mother Magdalena Wille as one of seven children. He had a Matura in 1972 before studying history in Zürich and Berlin. Career Since 1981, Vogt has worked in the Liechtenstein state archives, and has headed the office since 2002. He was a lecturer for history and political science in Vaduz from 1981 to 1993. Other roles have included member of the board for the Lake Constance History Association from 1980 to 1993, President of the Board of Trustees of the Liechtenstein State Museum from 1985 to 1994, and then board member from 1986 to 1995. Balzers
Balzers is a village located in southern Liechtenstein. As of 2019, the village had a total population of 4,642. The main part of the village is situated along the east bank of the Rhine. History and culture Historically, the present-day form of the village consists of two different villages, the actual Balzers in the east and Mäls in the west. Not visible to the unaware, the division still persists in the local village culture, where it manifests in half-serious local competition. Some customs, such as the "Funken", a springtime ritual with pre-Christian origins involving a huge bonfire, are still being practised by each separately. The two parts were first mentioned in 842 as ''Palazole''. Balzers is the home of the Burg Gutenberg, which was built in the 12th-century and located on a rocky hill in the centre of the village. 2003 Liechtenstein Constitutional Referendum
A constitutional referendum regarding the Prince’s powers was held in Liechtenstein on 14 March 2003. The referendum had two questions: a "Princely Initiative" and a "Constitution Peace Initiative".Dieter Nohlen & Philip Stöver (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p1173 The first question passed with 64.32% in favour and the second question was rejected by 83.44% of voters. The Princely Initiative asked voters whether to approve an extension of the power of the Prince to dismiss the government, nominate judges and veto legislation. The Constitution Peace Initiative asked voters whether to approve or disapprove of constitutional modifications, including modifications which would have restricted the Prince’s powers.
