Paul Utke
Paul Utke ( ; born December 3, 1956) is an American politician and member of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, he represents District 2 in northwestern Minnesota. Early life and career Utke was born on December 3, 1956, and raised in North Dakota. He is an insurance broker and was elected to the Park Rapids City Council in 2008. He was chaired the Hubbard County Republicans and has served on boards of several local organizations. He owned a hardware store in Park Rapids for 16 years. The 2016 Minnesota Senate election was held in the U.S. state of Minnesota on November 8, 2016, to elect members to the Senate of the 90th and 91st Minnesota Legislatures. A primary election was held in several districts on August 9, 2016. The election coincided with the election of the other house of the Legislature, the House of Representatives. The Republican Party of Minnesota won a majority of seats, defeating the majority of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL). This was the first election for the DFL since it won a majority of seats in the 2012 election, after losing a majority to the Republicans in the 2010 election. Hubbard County, Minnesota
Hubbard County is a county in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 21,344. Its county seat is Park Rapids. Part of the Leech Lake Indian Reservation is in the county. History The county was created on February 26, 1883, with territory partitioned from Cass County. It was named for Lucius Frederick Hubbard, a prominent Territory editor, Civil War participant, and businessman who was governor of Minnesota from 1882 to 1887. The county's boundaries have remained unchanged since its creation. The new county's courthouse was destroyed by fire around 1890, but the public records were salvaged. Geography The county's terrain is hilly, largely wooded, and dotted with lakes and ponds. Rod Skoe (born August 9, 1954) is a Minnesota politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he represented District 2, which included all or portions of Becker, Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Otter Tail and Wadena counties in the northwestern part of the state. Education Skoe completed high school at Kelliher High School in Kelliher, and later received a B.A. from Augsburg College in Minneapolis.
