Paul Tosio
Paul Tosio is a dual British-South African educational specialist and a psychologist qualified at the University of Oxford. He is an alumnus of New College Oxford University. Personal life Tosio is a graduate of Rhodes University and the University of Oxford. During his first three degrees at Rhodes he was awarded full academic colours and numerous scholarships. Following this, he read for an MSc in Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. This was his fourth degree. Tosio now resides permanently in Cape Town, South Africa, and travels extensively to teach. Sharjah English School (SES) is a British-curriculum school in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is one of the longest-established private, not for profit, coeducational schools in the UAE. The Corley Conspiracy
''The Corley Conspiracy'' is an opera by Tim Benjamin to a libretto by Sean Starke, who also directed. The work premiered on 19 September 2007 in the Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre in London; the orchestral parts were played by the ensemble Radius. The opera was commissioned by the London Design Festival 2007. Roles The performance of the work lasts for about 75 minutes. Structure Unusually for an opera, all the vocal parts are spoken, but unlike a play, the music is continuous and relates strongly to the text. Background The text of the work is based on Mike Corley's experiences and theories, as shown in his Usenet posts and on his website. Orlando Pirates Football Club (often known as "The Buccaneers") is a South African professional football club based in the Houghton suburb of the city of Johannesburg and plays in the top-tier system of Football in South Africa known as DStv Premiership. The team plays its home matches at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. The club was founded in 1937 and was originally based in Orlando, Soweto. Irvin Khoza
Irvin Khoza (born January 27, 1948) is a South African football administrator and businessman. Nicknamed "Iron Duke / Squveve", he is the Chairman of Orlando Pirates Football Club, Chairman of the South African Premier Soccer League and by virtue of this, Vice-President of the South African Football Association. His relationship with Orlando Pirates started in 1980, when he became its secretary and owner in 1991. As the Chairman of the Premier Soccer League, he was instrumental in securing the current sponsors of the league, Absa Group Limited. He was also the Chairman of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa, after serving as the Chairman of South Africa's 2010 FIFA World Cup bid. Raymond Ackerman (businessman)
Raymond Ackerman (born 10 March 1931) is a South African businessman, who purchased the Pick 'n Pay supermarket group from its founder. He purchased four stores from Jack Goldin in the 1960s. Raymond Ackerman was chairman until he stepped down in 2010. Biography After graduating from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Commerce, he joined the Greatermans group in the Ackermans division in 1951 at the age of 20 as a trainee manager. Ackermans had been founded just after World War I by his father Gus, but was sold to the Greatermans group in 1940. Ackerman was eventually offered a position at Greatermans head office in Johannesburg. In the early 1950s, food retailing supermarkets first began to appear on the scene in South Africa. SAFM (official callsign: 5SSA) is a commercial FM radio station owned and operated by Southern Cross Austereo as part of the Hit Network. The station is broadcast to Adelaide, South Australia from studios in Franklin Street. History The station began broadcasting on 12 September 1980, on the frequency of 107.5 MHz, with a call sign of 5SSA and an original on-air branding of "Double SA-FM" which was very short-lived and soon replaced by "SA-FM". It was the first commercial radio station to broadcast on the FM band in Adelaide started by Paul Thompson of the Austereo Network. Eusebius McKaiser (28 March 1979 – 30 May 2023) was a South African political analyst, journalist, and broadcaster. Among others, he wrote for the '' Mail & Guardian'', the ''Sunday Times'', ''Foreign Policy'', '' The Guardian'', '' The New York Times'', and '' Business Day'', for which he wrote a weekly column. Radio 702
702 is a commercial FM radio station based in Johannesburg, South Africa, broadcasting on FM 92.7 and FM 106 to the greater Gauteng province. The station is also webcast via its website. It claims to be Johannesburg's number one news and talk station, offering news, sport, business and actuality programming and plenty of phone-in debates. The station itself was established in 1980 and was initially a young adult music station, moving to a talk format in 1988. During South Africa's apartheid era, 702 and Capital Radio 604, were the only independent sources of broadcast news. The station is owned by Primedia. Until 2006, 702 was broadcast only on 702 kHz AM. In March 2006, it won an application to move to the FM radio frequency, and the first FM broadcast took place on 24 July 2006. Grocott's Mail
''Grocott’s Mail'' is the oldest surviving independent newspaper in South Africa. Founded in 1870 (but incorporating the ''Grahamstown Journal'' which was founded in 1831), this weekly newspaper has survived many years and is today the only newspaper that is published in Grahamstown. Founding Thomas Henry Grocott was the founder of ''Grocott’s Free Paper'', established on 7 May 1870 from premises in High Street, which is a listed heritage site. The gable of the building, with its Victorian and Flemish features, bears the date 1869-1906, while the present façade was added in 1906 after a devastating fire. Twentieth century In 1920 Grocott and Sherry bought out the ''Grahamstown Journal'' and the two publishers decided to issue a single daily edition due to the post war paper shortage.
