Paul Roche (hurler)
Paul Roche (born 1 February 1982 in Oulart, County Wexford) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his club Oulart–The Ballagh and was a member of the Wexford senior inter-county team from 2005 to 2013. Roche was known as one of the best full-backs for Wexford. Playing career Club Roche plays his club hurling with the best-known Oulart–The Ballagh club in Wexford and has overall been a success. He joined in early 2003 while still playing the Under-21 squad and still is currently playing with no awards. Inter-county Roche first made his senior debut against Kilkenny in the 2005 Leinster final. That year it wasn't the greatest success for Wexford as they were narrowly defeated by Kilkenny. Oulart–The Ballagh GAA
Oulart–The Ballagh is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Wexford, Ireland. The club takes its players primarily from the area around the villages of Oulart and The Ballagh. The club has won the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship on 13 occasions, most recently in 2016. Their main rivals are Buffers Alley. Former hurlers, associated with the club, include former Wexford manager Liam Dunne and current Oulart–The Ballagh senior manager Martin Storey. History Oulart–The Ballagh were the opponents of Mount Leinster Rangers in the final of the 2013 Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship when Mount Leinster Rangers became the first club from Carlow to win the title. Oulart
Oulart (, formerly ''Ubhallghort'' - ''"the orchard"''), is a small village in the southeastern corner of Ireland. It is situated in County Wexford just off the R741 regional road halfway between the towns of Gorey to the north and Wexford to the south. Raheenduff or "Black little fort" in English, is a small hamlet within the extremities of Oulart village and is home of Cooney's local grain store, village store and public house, which has been managed by the Redmond family since the 1950s. Two other townlands in Oulart, Kilnamanagh and Kyle, are home to businesses such as a plant nursery, pubs, SPAR supermarket, and auto services business. Oulart had a population of 197 people in 2006, 257 in 2011, and 274 according to the 2016 census. The Battle of Oulart Hill took place near Oulart during the 1798 rebellion. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points.
