Paul McAreavey
Paul McAreavey (born 3 December 1980) is a Northern Irish football manager and former player. He previously played for Swindon Town, Linfield, Dundalk, Ballymena United and Donegal Celtic. In May 2006 the Belfast native signed a three-year full-time deal with Linfield. In August 2013 McAreavy returned to Donegal Celtic as manager following the departure of his predecessor Pat McAllister. McAreavey left his position in June 2014, with Nicky Maye, a coach under McAreavey, promoted to manager. The Irish Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly referred to as the Irish Cup (currently known as the Samuel Gelston's Whiskey Irish Cup for sponsorship purposes) is the primary football knock-out cup competition in Northern Ireland. Inaugurated in 1881, it is the fourth-oldest national cup competition in the world. Prior to the break-away from the Irish Football Association by clubs from what would become the Irish Free State in 1921, the Irish Cup was the national cup competition for the whole of Ireland. 2005 Setanta Cup
The 2005 Setanta Cup was the first edition of a club football competition featuring teams from both football associations on the island of Ireland. It was inaugurated as a cross-border competition between clubs from the League of Ireland in the Republic of Ireland and the Irish League in Northern Ireland. The cup is sponsored by Setanta Sports; the Irish sports television network. The competition was launched with Setanta providing support for prize money (€350,000) and sponsorship (€1.6 million over 4 years). For this season the cup was simply known as the Setanta Cup before being renamed the Setanta Sports Cup from 2006 onwards. Glentoran beat Longford Town 2–1 in the first ever game of the competition on 15 March 2005. The Setanta Sports Cup was a club football competition featuring teams from both football associations on the island of Ireland. The 2007–08 Irish League Cup (known as the CIS Insurance Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 22nd edition of the Irish League Cup, Northern Ireland's secondary football knock-out cup competition. The Northern Ireland Football League Cup (BetMcLean League Cup for sponsorship purposes), also known colloquially as the Irish League Cup, is a national football knock-out cup competition in Northern Ireland open to all member clubs of the Northern Ireland Football League. It is the third-most prestigious competition in domestic Northern Irish football after the NIFL Premiership and Irish Cup.
